5196R vs 5196J prices
The Patek MSRP of the 5196R is 22k but the MSRP of the 5196J is 20k. Does anyone know why there is a 2k difference when the only difference is rose gold vs yellow gold. Is rose gold more expensive to make?

That pricing differential is fairly common across Patek models, J typically being around $2k less than both the R and G counterparts.

R takes more effort to make compare to J. Just like G (white gold)

All 18k gold is an alloy of gold mixed with base metals (copper, zinc, nickel, etc).
The only difference between yellow, rose, and white is the base metal composition - the gold is all the same. Why would adding one base metal vs another add substantially to the effort or expense? The difference in consumer price is manipulated entirely by supply/demand. |

Exactly, I had been looking at the rose gold model and jotted the price down from there, when I settled on the yellow gold I was quite surprised at the price difference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And, do not forget: the 5196R has a (very little) more complex dial structure/dial surface. It is plain white(J) vs. silver brushed (R).

Rosegold material is using more copper. the price of the ROSEGOLD precious metal is LOWER than the white/yellow gold.
The highest will be white gold by using more Palladium alloy. If whitegold using more Palladium, the color will be whiter. I doubt Patek use lots Palladium. Palladium is more expensive. |

No it is arbitrary pricing. Virtually every watch company charges more for rose or white gold than yellow and far more for platinum. It is based on what the market will bear. The metals difference also carries over to the used market price.
