SMP chronograph water resistance
I just acquired a Seamaster professional chronograph 41.5 mm.
I sat down and actually read the owners manual and this watch is rated to 300.. but the pushers for the chronograph are not screw down. The owners manual states they can be operated under water? This seems suspect to me mainly because I don't understand how it can remain water tight. It's a beautiful watch and to be honest, I'm a little nervous about taking it swimming. Can someone weigh in on this, should I go ahead and swim with it and don't worry.? I never had a 300m chronograph before. I might of purchased the standard 300m instead.

Hi Wayne,
I think you are safe to swim with it. Unless you are timing a dive down to 300 metres?

Dude, trust me it’s made for diving. Have it pressure tested if you are concerned. I agree operating the pushers under water is against logic but I have the same watch and have never had any issues. It’s a great piece, share some pics!

Omega doesn't F around. I implicitly trust the water resistance of my omegas. Would bet money on it (more than a service cost).

You're actually going diving with it? And then you're actually going to use the chronograph features? Under water?
That will put you in an extremely small subset of watch owners.

Swim with it actually, I have not dived since 1998. Did a lot between 1980 and 1998. And no, LOL, I will not be using the pushers in water.

Omega is one of the few manufacturers who make dive chronographs that have pushers that are operable without compromising water resistance to the watch's depth rating. Don't do this with any speedmasters, but Seamasters are fine.

Great, it's a amazing watch. Very well built I think. With the materials and craftsmanship I thinks it's made to last a very long time.

It's a great looking watch. I'm not a chrono guy, but I love the 300M, in some ways I prefer it over my Planet Ocean.

You're safe to operate the pushers on Seamaster Professional and Planet Ocean Chronograph watches under water, all the way to the depth rating considering all is as it should be. It's what I love about those models as they're protected yet always ready for use. Albeit similar in appearance to the screw down Chrono pushers on Breitling etc, they're simply shouldered.
You're going to have a blast with this piece! Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The Speedmaster as someone mentioned above is a totally different story. You don't want to push those down when the piece is wet and especially not under water. |
