Wore a Submariner for a Day
I had a chance to wear a six digit Rolex Submariner for a day. My usual 24/7 watch is my Seamaster 300M so I thought the comparison would be interesting as I'm a former Rolex collector. After 8 hours with the Sub, I was glad to give it back. In comparison to my 300M, it felt small and light, especially with respect to the band. I see lots of complaints about the width of the Seamaster band but the Rolex tapered design felt insubstantial on my wrist. Rolex makes nice watches, but in my mind, the Seamaster beats the Sub in looks and wearability. Moreover, the Caliber 8800 Omega movement is outstanding with remarkable accuracy and anti-magnetic properties.. Yes, I know it's a subjective comparison, but for me, Omega takes the win.

To each their own. Both brands offer a little something different

Thanks for sharing your impressions here. The current Seamaster is a winner, for sure.

It is an interesting discussion comparing the Seamaster 300 and the Rolex Submariner. Many, my self included, love the Crown and will make a discussion that focuses on the brand more than the watches. If you take the branding out, the Seamaster is a least as good if not better than the Submariner. Fit, finish and design and the fact that you can do OEM straps that really work and do not look like an afterthought. The movement is top shelf and the accuracy is better in my experience. Add in price and you have a winner. But the name does mean something and Rolex is Rolex. I go through phases and right now I am wearing my Omega's significantly more than my Rolex's and enjoying them. A lot of this is personal opinion but my opinion does matter to me.

I have both as well and the Omega spends a lot more time on my wrist.

If you think a modern submariner feels dainty you would properly hate a nautilus.

I've tried to like the Seamaster line, but I just can't get into them. I really dislike the bracelet design and that big ol' knob at the 10 position. Their movements are impressive though.

Seamaster Divers are great watches. The Submariner, with a less busy dial, a more formal looking bracelet, and bezels / surfaces that are highly reflective, looks a bit more refined IMO. But you may not want that.

You are right. Dollar for dollar, I think the SMP 300 wins outright!

Did you take a photo of the sub on your wrist for comparison?

Interesting comments regarding feel on the wrist but for me the Submariner is a far, far better looking watch than the Seamaster.

Try a 5 digit Sub if you get the chance, I suspect it will feel very different to a 6 digit model.

I have the SMP on rubber and a 41mm TT Sub. The Sub is a nicer watch but the SMP gets more wrist time. For overall value for the $$$, Omega wins it for me.

I couldn't disagree more but I'm glad you're happy with your Seamaster.

Thanks for sharing, I can see why you would feel this way. Albeit subjective, I'm glad to see you found what works best for you. Given the choice I would likely chose as you did. Enjoy in good health!

Your memory is correct. I wore the Sub to see if I made a mistake by going Omega. I'm glad I ran my small experiment because it confirmed my choice of the 300M.

An impressive watch indeed, but far too thick and chunky for my wrist...non tapered bracelet is too bulky. If I wore a Seamster, I'd need it on rubber. But I'd much rather wear a Sub and I don't even like the last two current generations.

I have a 14060M COSC that I bought new when Rolex first released the model. I also have two Omegas but I find they sit high and slide around on my wrist. In this instance I have to give the nod to the Sub.

I try to talk myself into a 300M every few weeks, but get stuck on the HEV and not sure if I like the hands. Everything else about it looks and feels great.

I think a better comparison is between the sub and Planet Ocean 39.5 mm. It's been the PO the past six months for me. The 116610 sits idle.

The Planet Ocean is great, I have the 1st gen 42mm (which really wears like a 40mm). I'd like to try the 39.5, but I doubt it would sway me to replace the 2500, though 39.5 seems like an even better size to me.

Both great watches - I bought into the hype of the seamaster 300 and bought one ... objectively like others have said it holds its own against the SubC.... BUT, turns our I hardly wear it, it’s just too big and clunky on my 6.75 inch wrist compared to my SubC and honestly the Sub just feels higher quality and more special. Just my 2 cents as an owner of several Omega and Rolex.

I’ve always found the Seamaster too busy in all guises and would take the Submariner. But, the Seamaster 300 is in a different league and I now have that. Vintage style 3 hander. I have it on a nato as I truly dislike modern Omega bracelets. Now, my Seamaster 300 on a 93150 that would be perfection (and sacrilege!)

I actually had the 1st gen PO as well. Never really liked it, and traded it in for the SMPC. Do not regret that trade. Part of the reason is that it never fit quite right. I guess now you can get the newer clasps for them, but I did not do that. I also like the gloss and ceramic of the newer PO and 116610 more than the matte with aluminum. The 39.5 fits my flat 6.75 inch wrist perfect. To me it definitely wears smaller than the sub. I hate thick watches, but in real life wearing, the PO does not wear thicker than the sub (at least to me).
