When you were 8 years old didn’t you want to know what your Christmas presents were? Same deal, but an adult version. Probably better to wait….but the child in us all…..

Cannot understand why anyone would want to do this, as if its anything like the past 24 year's ,mainly disappoint with Rolex. As in the real world you can count on one hand the real 100% new watches as most are just cosmetically changed old ones, hope I am wrong this year .

When I was 8 I just had to wait another night for Christmas. Now I will have to wait years before I even see the real thing in person. There are still releases from 2021 that I haven't seen. Especially stuff that gets announced, released and disco'ed all in the span of 2 years.

Finding out four or five days before but still not seeing these in the flesh for (many) months doesn’t excite me.

No doubt people are already trying. Whether they’re successful or not remains to be seen. It wasn’t really a hack as much as it was sloppy system administration that left unsecured data available to the public.

I personally wouldn’t recommend it. Stumbling upon unprotected data is one thing. But hacking or illegally entering a system is a felony and you could go to jail for it.

Ok, don’t ask too many questions but I’ve taken a quick tour and have discovered that we’ll see:

1. A full YG version of the Sea-Dweller
2. The discontinuation of the James Cameron

You’re welcome. :-)

the watches have been known to certain members of the media community since early march from various masions (although i do not know what the watches are). access was allowed for photos, videos and so forth.

Agreed, no one was hacked, it was bad webmastering.

A year or two later it was Google ads or some such that gave it away.

Judging from the flat Ti caseback in the teaser, probably the DSSD, not the SD43, unfortunately to me. We shall see!!

Which begs the question, what would be a 100% new watch model?
Not talking luxury watches. Some do look nice. But besides only telling the time, they just hang on a wrist and look pretty.
I've always tended to tool watches. I want my watch to be useful for more than telling the time of day.

I've got two ideas, but they are more variations than new watches.
1. A Submariner that tracks tides.
Since tides differ by location, there would need to be a way to adjust for that.
2. A GMT that tracks moon phases.

I don't think Rolex has ever made a watch with one of these complications.

I’d like Rolex to be able to track my wife’s mood swings .. so I know when not to put my foot in it …

Good point!

Also, greetings - I see you’re in Spain - I’m passing through on a cruise. We stopped in Cadiz and hit Malaga tomorrow.

What do you make of the two Sea-Dweller videos released this past week?

Cheers!

I think it’s easy to understand why Rolex rarely release any new models. As long as their customer base uses the word “iconic” at each an every turn for most existing references, why reinvent the wheel?

Until (if ever) the market starts to say, “you know what, that Sub & GMT (for example) are a bit long in the tooth now”, I can’t see them changing a great deal.

If they do try to release a genuine update & improvement , say the current Air King, there’s still a strong element who will run it down for its heritage & have the opinion “well it’s not a Sub is it”.

Until their consumers want change, Rolex have no need to change.

Yes, the Rolex reputation for being classic and conservative is one of their strongest points.
That said they have certainly come out with all new models in the last 24 years:
Yachtmaster I and II, Skydweller, revived Milgauss, Deep Sea Seadweller, first inhouse chronograph movement, etc.
I don’t usually go too crazy when the yearly drop happens yet three of my four current Rolex are all reissues of classic models with enough new features to make me want them.
