Los Angeles Recommendations

I've got a wedding to attend in Santa Barbara in early May and will have ~3 days to kill in LA... I'm staying in a good friend's spare bedroom (so no hotel) and I'm sure he'll have some recommendations himself but curious if anyone here has any things I have to do/see/eat/etc, watch-related or otherwise (particularly a nice hotel pool that I can buy a day-pass at).... I've been several times so less interested in full-on tourist-type sight-seeing things...

Only specific things I've got on tap so far are a friend's birthday dinner at majordomo one night, and stopping by wanna buy a watch (to look around) and ABC watchwerks (to drop off a watch)...

I'm staying in west hollywood but will have a car.

Why not hit the Jewelry Mart in downtown L.A? In the area of 6th and Hill St. Multiple sellers in the same rooms kinda place.

A cornucopia of Rolexi and all for sale. Great spot if you like pre owned Rolex at a barter and pay in cash style. You can write a check but you have to wait while they go cash it. There is also an AD there but they don't bargain.

BTW since you will be in West Hollywood stop by for a meal at Barney's Beanery.

Dodgers Game.

Usually pretty good stand-up in the comedy clubs, as well.

Tons of good food within about 20 minutes of West Hollywood. Jon and Vinny's, Dan Tana's, CUT, are just a few solid choices close by.

Besides hitting the beach, Malibu or otherwise, always love a mountain bike trip starting at topanga creek outpost for rentals and a map, takes about 2-2:30h and kicks but. For a more car related tip, rent a fun car and drive mulholland and other canyon roads, best during the week and visit the Petersen auto museum, we just went yesterday and saw the Porsche exhibit. Along with a nice collection it’s a fun 2hrs even for the not super gear heads...Wannabuyawarch is great, a friend just picked up a nice root beer...

I would suggest spending an extra day in Santa Barbara. A couple of great, inexpensive places to grab a bite or a drink in SB:

Lilly's Tacos (best tacos in town)

The French Press (awesome coffee)

Elsie's (great little place to grab a beer or wine)

Metropulos Fine Foods (European-style market with fantastic sandwiches)

You can rent bikes and ride the bike path along the ocean from Santa Monica down to Redondo Beach which includes Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo.

It can take the better part of a day if you wish, with lots of stops at beachside bars and restaurants and lots of people and babe watching walking and roller blading and bike riding along the ocean.

I always do a mountainbike ride (have rented twice from the place mentioned in post #6) and also do a hike when in LA. Griffith Park is close to WeHo, the path up to the Observatory has great views. Also Runyan Canyon and Will Rogers SP are wellknown and scenic hikes.
The watch boutiques clustered around Rodeo Dr are fun to browse, a bit further away South Coast Mall has them all indoors.

If you were raised in a traditional eating Italian family. Dan Tana's is spaghetti you can eat. It is really good. (Not as good as Grampa's but what is?)

We actually stopped by the last time we were there. They've changed the name of the hotel.

I like to drop in to Perch for a drink and watch the sunset. Quirky crowd.
