Talk me out of buying a gold Daytona ....

So I am looking for a Daytona and I went to a shop to try some on

I made the mistake of trying a white gold one on. Its so beautiful.
It looks very subtle. most people, certainly form a distance, wouldn't notice anything special. Which appeals to me, as I couldn't wear a yellow gold one.

Its very heavy though. Reminds me of my Oris Depth Gauge :)

Totally impractical, stupidly expensive, depreciates as opposed to steel which appreciates, but it has a magnetic draw .........

Daytona

What's the cost on that beauty?

I worked with a physician in the late 90's who had one (SG) he bought in the late 80's for $10K (USD).

Can't imagine the value today based on what we know of Daytona's.

If you love it, do it :)

BTW if you get it at a good price, depreciation is of little concern :)

I really like PM Daytonas. The 116508 with champagne sub dials is my personal favorite.

If you buy wisely from a TS and go slightly used, I bet the depreciation is less than you think. At least that's what I tell myself.

Not sure if an AD can come close to a TS on a PM piece pricing, but I'm not sure. Haven't bought one yet.

Only get it if you intended to keep forever
Or
You can take a good £5000-8000 minimum hit in resale down the road

OP - you knew exactly what would happen if you posted here. If you really didn't want to buy the watch, you'd take a holiday from TRF

Which WG model are your considering? Hope it's the OF model with ceramic bezel and grey panda dial!

This would make it substantially less expensive than the SS Daytona. Unless those prices plummet as well, I find this scenario hard to believe.

I’ve got the watch as well and am going to be absolutely no help...it’s my absolute favorite watch and I spontaneously bought it the first time I saw it.

Do I care about what it’s worh? Hell no, never selling it. Is it holding its value well? Yes, cheapest on Chrono24 (including pre-owned) is $27.5k. Retails for $28.8k.

Retail value in UK is £27,500
Maybe I should fly over to the US and get it
Any good dealers in NY ?

They are all good in NYC, I just would not expect a discount.

I don’t think you should buy the white gold one.

No date. Weak lume. Weak visibility.

Is that enough?

Too bad it’s sexy as hell.

I just purchased a rose gold Daytona, 116505, and I love it more than I ever imagined I would. I cannot in good conscience, try to talk you out of purchasing a gold Daytona.
