Authentic or Fake 1680

Hi all,

I just purchased a 1680 SN 2421xxx. I have some doubt as to it's authenticity. I believe at the best it has a service dial. Any help is greatly appreciated. I apologize for the sideways shots--can't figure out how to rotate them!

William

I am guessing this is the auction you won:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Rolex-1...-/322153054913 ?

Watchgroupcorp strikes again!

There are SEVERAL issues with that watch (fake dial, fake case, etc.). I'd get your money back if possible.

Might want to read this thread too:

So....you spent $8,500 without even knowing what you are buying?

Why would you do that?

Only thing that looks gen to me is the movement.

good luck

Welcome to the Forum!

Start a dispute to return an item received not as described (FAKE) and get a refund for the purchase.

the listing does not say that the case for example is original ,,, clever wording in the description
but get the dispute started very quickly ,
e bay are not helping their reputation or peoples confidence , they could do so much more.
welcome to the forum too.

Also looks like this watchgroupcorp only accepts paypal under 2k. I hope the OP paid with a credit card and not wire transfer. On a side note Watchgroupcorp is owned by I believe Tim Strong,( his name on his TRF acct. before being banned), I wonder if all the groups he is a member of (NAWCC, IWJG, and AWCI) know he deals in fakes?

Just FYI, watchgroupcorp has now changed his eBay ID to: superiorvintagewatches

Looks like he (Tim Strong) has had several different "aliases" previously as well:

watchgroupinc

wyobullion

watchescentral-tv

watch-shoppe

testigo2010

All, thanks so much for your input and advice. I initiated the return on Ebay yesterday (paid with cc) and the seller accepted the return. I printed the Ebay postal label and shipped today. I'll keep all advised. I'll never buy another Rollie without coming here first!!!

Crappy situation for sure. But I'm confused. For that kind of money you could have probably easily found a AD that either had what your looking for in stock or been able to source one for you. I just couldn't imagine buying a Rolex or any expensive watch off eBay. That's just me though. Lesson learned for you. I hope.

I could be wrong, but I don't think many ADs are going to have any 1680 red Subs left in stock, lol...

Just spend 10'minutes here looking at photos before you buy next time.

That case is the typical "aftermarket" offering with the crown guards shaped totally wrong. Then there's the lack of corrosion on the back (which is possible) and lack of any bracelet wear- that is a huge red flag because you see signs of bracelet wear in a couple months so no way the original broke and it was then on a strap for 45 years...

I didn't even bother zooming in on the dial.

Great work i think this is a good reason we don't give out too much info in this section. He likely was fishing for info on how to improve his fakes as he been posting in this section recently

All, thanks so much for your support and interest. The seller was very understanding and very professional when addressing my concerns. End result--I was issued a full refund.

Great, of course I guess guys who sell fakes give the money back when they are caught, but for 1 time when they get caught how many times they get away with it???
