Icon3 I have officially found my first Rolex:

I posted a few week ago about looking for a versatile, understated Rolex. I was super happy that Rolex announced one yesterday:

The Oyster Perpetual 39 in black or white

Note the significantly improved thickness on the markers and the improved lume.

I am also pairing it with a Tudor Black Bay 41 in blue

I think Etschell and I both are praising this watch all over the forums as the best Basel release

I was really struck by the black dial version - strongly considering reorganizing and making room for one of those after the dust settles

I love these peices- best in show for me. A return to the old ways- a basic, no compromise, built to last forever, no PCL daily Oyster.

I love the Air-King Ref. 14000M , but it is too small for me.

Now, this OP seems to be the perfect solution !

New OP in Black

I always liked the OP but disliked the previous years options in terms of face colour and the Pips colours . I always said if it came in black I would get one. The problem now is I am suppose to be getting a Sub next week but now I am wondering should I wait and get the OP with the Black Face...thoughts anyone????

Love the black dial, one of the best unveiling this year in my opinion.

I wouldn't put off the Sub for a watch you (anyone not at Basel) have not seen in person. Rolex can do different things with black which aren't clear in the heavily controlled and edited pictures on their Website.

Get the Sub and when you see the OP in the metal and you have to have it then either trade/sell the Sub (you'll get $$ back) or add the OP.

As hard as Subs are to get if you pass now and don't like the OP then you'll be kicking yourself. Bird in the hand, so to speak.

Wondered when there would be a discussion about this . . . . the black & white dial OP 39s are my favorite Rolex release this year

... although I was really hoping for a green dial like the OP 34mm

Same! Holding for a OP 39 or Explorer 1 with a 3230 movement. Who knows how many years :/

I'm pretty much with you. I was waiting for Bezel to see if the movements were updated in any of those options. Since there wasn't, it'll probably be a DJ41 for me - fluted on jubilee. Then wait for updated movements in either the explorer or OP - smooth on oyster or Rubber B strap.

I think that will just about do it for me.

I really like the white dial. The black pips on the stark white dial look so cool.
