Wait. What?!? Seiko releases NEW Alpinists? Huh?

https://timeandtidewatches.com/intro...j-and-spb159j/

Didn't we already get new Alpinists in the form of the SPB117, SPB119, and SPB121 earlier this year?

I mean aesthetically the SPB155, SPB157, and SPB159 look like Alpinists but they're missing the inner compass bezel which is arguably the key feature of the watch.

Maybe buoyed by the success of the Tic-Tac release

These look awesome!!! Love the 38mm size... looks very clean without the rotating inner bezel and extra crown. Nice handset. 6R35. Green version looks like a winner. Seiko continuing to kill it.

Agreed - not an alpinist without the inner compass bezel. Original was much better

I think I like this better without the inner compass.

I don’t even know what an inner bezel compass is for, I won’t miss it. I won’t miss the cyclop over the date, either.

The dial, hands and case look nice, but it’s a strange release. Taking away the compass is taking away the heritage of the watch. Imagine a 38mm Submariner without a bezel but still called a “Submariner”. Weird. It might look good, but weird.

^ Although the first Alpinist in the 1960s didnt have a compass.

But i agree, the Alpinist gained prominence with the SARB017 i think. And it has a compass. That is the iconic Alpinist for me.

Many alpinists didn’t have that stupid compass bezel and second crown.

No cyclops is a win. But one look at it and it doesn't possess that special it factor.

The preview articles I saw said September, and I've been watching web sites for Seiko US, Seiya, and Gnomon, but no further signs of activity yet...

I'm hoping to pick one up as a holiday gift for a nephew.

Thanks- September is what I saw too... of which there are only a few days left.
I think they did a nice job w the design, 6R movement and nice price point especially if they will be avail at discount through website, Macy’s etc

I think this could be a really good inexpensive alternative to the Rolex Explorer. Seems very versatile and it has 200m of water resistance. It can be a do anything, go anywhere watch.
