Would You Trade a SS Daytona + $ for an ALS 1815 AC?
After acquiring an AP 15202 (“Jumbo”) I’ve been interested in moving up-market from my staple of SS Rolex. I’m tempted to trade a 116520 Daytona (Black Dial) + Cash for an ALS 1815 AC (White Gold).
I have a 116610LN (Sub Date) I’m keeping warm for my son (to gift in 20+ Years). A bit torn, as I do like the Daytona and know it will hold value well. Thoughts? |

No, wouldn’t consider.
I’ve been in the market for a nice dress watch and the 1815 up/down is in the final shortlist, and I did consider the AC for a while. But I wouldn’t trade out the 116500 for it. The 1815 AC is excellent btw

I would do that trade but only because I happen to love the 1815 AC and also because I can seldom tell what time it is on my Daytona. If you have one Oyster case Rolex in your collection, for me, that's enough.

I would. Capitalize on the Daytona market price and move up. I moved a black 520 for a 4500v overseas and I would make that deal every single time.

As much as I love the 1815 Annual Calendar, I would want to keep a chronograph in the collection and the Daytona is a blue chip watch. I would save up and add the Lange.

I would do the trade up. I’ve never been enamored with the Daytona and the 1815 AC is a top notch piece. If you want a sporty chrono just pick up a Speedy with the Lange.

Nah. I’d hold the Daytona and add the 1815 in time.

Yes. The 1815 is far more impressive in every way possible.

100% yes on this one. The ALS 1815 AC is incredible and will add to your collection.

I don’t think there is a wrong or right here , and depends how much cash. If you aren’t enamoured w the Daytona then sure why not - Daytona values are great now. Personally , though I would go for the 1815 chronograph to keep a chronograph in my collection. But the 1815 AC is awesome too, esp if it’s the watch that will spend the most time on your wrist.

Honestly strike while the iron is hot. The difference between a nice Rolex (the Daytona is legitimately a great watch) and an ALS is big. I moved my Daytona for VC Overseas and would make that trade 100 times out of 100. I imagine you'll have a similar experience.

^ this. If and only if you must go ahead. The AC is great, but not worth losing an iconic watch in the Daytona that you more likely than not, will have some regrets parting with down the road.

I voted for yes but the caveat is if this is the only way to make the numbers work then do it. The Daytona noise (in terms of prices, demand) has never been crazier and if that allows you to stretch in something with more intrinsic value that will make you equally as happy (that bit is important) then do it.

No, yet mainly do to zero need for a dress timepiece. The Daytona is better for the beach.

I was thinking of recommending this as well and this may be the best solution if you want the Lange and what to have an iconic sport chronograph in the collection. The Speedmaster is more iconic than the Daytona and is a better watch in some ways, although the Daytona is better in other ways. The great thing about the Speedmaster is it gets you a quality, iconic chronograph for a fraction of what Daytonas sell for.

Thanks, all. Keeping the Daytona for now. Will likely raise funds for a secondary market Lange when time is ripe.

No, personal preference I just don't like the look of the dial on the Lange AC.
