Thank you. I live in the evergreen woods and deer pass through every day. I took this photo from my family room window with a DSLR and a 400 mm lens. It was quite cold, and he’d been rooting through the snow looking for food.

Urban beauty is where you find it.

Autumn’s rich red, purple, blazing orange, and tawny yellow are now the brown woods litter for squirrels seeking the final nuts and acorns to stash away.

A rustle for long walks, and remembrance, and anticipation of Winter’s return.

Great shot of the little Green Heron. They are hard to catch and more secretive than the Great Blue from my experience. Looks like it is a young one and they tend to be more tolerant of people. Very smart little herons and one of the few birds to use tools. I have seen them tearing bread apart to 'feed' fish and then they catch the fish as they come in for the bread.

I've heard stories from people who have seen the Green Herons fishing using bait.

This isn't a great shot because it was taken during a blizzard two days ago, but here are twelve Great Blue Herons riding out the storm on the river bank in my back yard. Bonus Trumpeter Swan and some Canada Geese too. Like almost all of my nature shots, it was taken through the window of the family room so I didn't have to work so hard for the photo. GBHs always remind me of the Grinch when they're sitting like this.

That is something. I've never seen that many in such close proximity unless it is a rookery. Around here they are pretty territorial and if one gets too close they will usually chase each other around. They definitely look like they are hunkering down to weather the storm. Maybe a case of misery loves company.

Your photo reminded me of this one I took at dawn a few years ago. The heron was in the exact same spot I saw it the evening before. It was Virginia cold (not Minnesota cold) and the lake was just starting to freeze over.

Thank you, Fabio. We had a wonderful time. My wife and I stayed in Omegna and Lezzeno with friends. Lots of great food, kind people and such striking landscapes. Really liked Orta, Maggiore and Como of course.)

We plan on returning the next time I need to go to Switzerland for work.

My humble offering for those who enjoy sunsets on the cocktail deck by the ocean. El Salvador, Pacific coast, late January when on family holiday. The small bright disk in the upper right corner is a satellite, or maybe a balloon of you know who.

My brother-in-law has really gotten into photography after he retired, and took this photo of a flock of mallards in flight at the Bosque in Albuquerque. I love the kinetic nature of the photo.

Dogs are better than most people these days IMO. I love every single one I see for what they are and what they do for our lives as humans. Dogs are amazing creatures that many don’t deserve. I will continue to be “soppy” over every dog picture I see on this forum and in real life. If you’re that bothered by it, please feel free to block me because I can guarantee I will post an incredible amount of posts about my dog and respond to every members dog I see posted in my hopeful tenure here in the future.

If this is UK humor, I don’t get it.

Steve, are you a cat person?
