I'm confused. Are you implying prices went down or up? I am seeing 15202 asking from 95k-150k. The max before a month or so ago was 120-130k.

That isn't what they are selling for though, I unloaded one recently and all interest was at $90k.

Isn’t there usually a ~10% to 15% premium that can be expected to be attained by a trusted dealer? They have overhead they need to cover, and there is also a lot more confidence dealing with a trusted dealer as opposed to dealing with an unknown private party.

I would expect for a new/unworn Jumbo, a trusted dealer can expect $100k in today’s market while a private party would be in the $90k range.

I could be wrong…I’m sure it also varies a bit based on the watch and whether or not there is ability to inspect the watch prior to purchase from a private party.

There is always delta between "dealer" prices and "man on the corner" prices (i.e., you and me selling). It's true for Rolex as well. Word for the wise... don't go get quotes for your BLROs etc. or you may soon findout they fare worse % markup wise than the 15202s of this world.

I think I may have figured out what you are alluding to.

AP will officially start its certified preowned program from next year - believe they will have dedicated boutiques or channels where existing owners can sell their watch for cash and possibly trade up to something else.

Preowned purchases from AP will be at current market prices of course - only difference here is AP will be the “market maker”.

In effect, by providing an official channel to sell your watch AP controls or in this case sets the base “grey market” price for their product.


It’s a great move by AP and allows them greater control of how their product is valued in the resale market.

LeBron has been a brand ambassador longer than FHB has been CEO. Probably also predated the AP fascination of the majority of today's fans by a decade. Also hard to argue with Kevin Hart's watch collection.

Regardless of the watch itself though, AP have been amazing and have gone way over and above any expectations by promising that it will arrive before her bday (St Valentine's Day).

I understand your logic, it is going to be a little like Ferrari Approved Program. Those which are Ferrari Approved are priced a little higher than those without. If AP can run a similar program and sell hot models @ market rate similar to how Ferrari retailers are selling TDFs and Pistas, it will be quite a huge breakthrough!

The question is: Will AP buy back from customers they sold at a higher rate?

That's a negative, according to the manager in a European boutique I chatted with recently. The mechanics still seemed pretty fuzzy, but he didn't think they'd be cash buyers at a premium for watches they sold at MSRP. I agree, this may be a viable solution, but working directly with AP for a trade-in is still not going to be cheaper than just selling whatever it is you have to a 3rd party dealer and then buying it at market price. AP's gotta be charging a premium for working directly with them, so for folks who are looking for savings/value, this still may not make sense. Plus, so i'd walk into a boutique, hand them my watch, and then WAIT for the next allocation of the watch I want? It's like leaving deposit, but with your existing timepiece, for a promise that isn't potentially in writing nor with a promised timeline... then again a lot we don't know, so curious to see how it'll unfold.
