fetched my AP from the safe - catastrophic performance

quite wild:

after ca. 1 year in bank vault i fetched my 15300ST from the bank vault, because i wanted to bring it to a routine service w/ AP

and i thought i will wear it a bit before i hand it in to the boutique

well, this watch really got some "issues" - after half a day of wearing it is off not seconds, not minutes, but literally hours.. so i guess the service will not be just "routine"

thought i post this anecdote, and i will update this thread in a few months when it's back from service and they hopefully tell what they had to fix

How long has it been since you last serviced it?

i think the watch was never in service - i bought it in 2020 and the previous owner has had it for 8 years without service to my knowledge

question is, was the watch fine before you put it in the bank vault? Perhaps having a watch stay untouched for a long time will have a big effect on its efficiency and that the self winding isn't strong enough to keep the watch running properly?

FWIW, I had a newish (under 18 month) old watch, did not wear it for a few months. Wound up, wore for a day, then next day picked up and noticed it was off by maybe a few hours. didn't think much of it since wore another watch. then went back a week later, wound it again, off by a few minutes after the night, adjusted the time, thought about sending to APSC, but then no issues since then.

Quirky divas was my conclusion!

basically, takes some time for the watch to get back into action

I'd leave it on a winder for a week and see where it's at first.

All 32 series Rolex I've owned do this when left not running. Only takes 1-3 months of rest and then it takes days to snap out of it.

My 15500 had issues after 2 years of use and sometimes slow hour+.

AP did a full service under warranty and now it’s one of my most accurate watches at + <1s/day. Bring yours in as it sounds like it’s time for the service!

thanks everyone for the infos -

i was considering magnetisation but wouldn't know where .. it was just an afternoon at the office ..

so indeed i will leave it on the winder for a few days and then see .. but even if it recovers, i will send it to service center for sure

ok the night on the watch winder seems to have cured it :-)

=> it stays on time now

yesterday, it was 20 minutes off for each hour that had passed..

Sounds like lube migration. Glad it's working

I think it has been magnetised. This can easily be solved with a de-magnetizer. I did it on my AE Chopard which had the same problem and it works.

After sitting for so long it probably needs a good wind and rotor shake.

Did you wind it?

I’m also really frustrated! Bought my 1 year old mint chrono, received it, wasn’t keeping time. Immediately had to send it in for service. Warranty covered it. Got it back last week and it’s running even worse. Can’t believe it. Stays accurate on the winder. Immediately starts losing time on the wrist. Left it on the night stand over night and woke up it was four hours slow. Spent stupid money on it and takes away a lot of the joy :/
Gotta send it back to ap

But it’s pretty..

I’m not an expert but it could just be a simple issue with the rotor as I had a similar issue with my Piaget. Of course it had a transparent caseback so it’s easier to see this and hadn’t been serviced for 8 years

Think about it, these watches are meant to be worn. They not exactly a grandfather’s clock which winds itself - I’d actually be suspicious if it was running fine after that

if u opt for the 3126 enhancement, AP will reduce 59jewel to 54jewel, the watch gets lighter, the min hand will jump everything u adjust the time...

ROC can’t work with a 3126 as it’s not the Offshore nor an Offshore movement. I think you got the watches mixed up a bit mate.

ok, i received the watch back from AP service last weekend,

=> and i am thrilled with the result, it is very accurate now

PS: the staff person mentioned that they had done a "full revision", however the bill does not offer any details on what exactly was done or what had been wrong.

glad to hear it all worked out! I bet they shook the watch a few times after the wind and put it back in good order to make sure you'd have it in time for Art Basel.
