Cannot identiy rolex model and year, photo included

Hi,

I inherited a Rolex and I am trying to identify the model and year. It should be from the 60's/70's or before 60's.

Does someone identify this model?

Regards,

Martin

I’m not an expert either but Rolex did have a cocktail line for a while of watches similar to this. Many that had similar style to this had cases covered as well. I can’t say as I have ever seen one with an orange dial though. They were usually champagne, cream, or silver if remember correctly.

Rolex made dozens of different ladies cocktail watches in the 60's and 70's.

Check it over for hallmarks and badging, as well as inside the case. All the Rolex examples would be precious metals and not plated.

Looks like possibly a stone (carnelian maybe) dial. Wouldn't expect to see that on a fake.

Need better photos, but I am gravitating to not fake if the case and bracelet are real gold...as said, Rolex made so many women's cocktail watches.

Can you post a closeup of just the watch head?

What is the text below the center?

(BTW - The 293kb file size limit should allow you plenty of detail - The below pic attached, e.g., is within that limit.)

The style of the watch is not fake, definitely a ladies cocktail watch. The dial and case inlays almost look like coral to me. Need pics of the back as well as the movement and inside of the case. There should be hallmarks somewhere on it and sometimes there are some on the bracelet clasp. Looks like 18K white gold to me.

Im assuming at the bottom of the dial it says either "Precision" or it may be a retailers stamp or sometimes the watch line is listed like the Orchid series.

The other thing to look at is whether the case and bracelet were made by a third party jewellery manufacturing company. If so, there might be a manufacturer's mark inside the case back and on one side of the clasp.

A lot of the European ladies mesh type bracelets and cases like this one were made by D Shackman and Sons and were marked with their code "DS&S". The movements were put in at Rolex, Bexley before the watch was packaged and distributed for sale, so these were genuine Rolex watches sold through the AD network rather than being like the earlier type where a jeweler might be able to put a Rolex movement into a variety of third party cases on his premises.

There were a few other case/bracelet manufacturers doing similar work for Rolex and they all probably marked their work in a similar way to Shackman.

The stone looks more like coral, to me.
Fairly common in women's jewelry.
Typically carnelian is a darker shade.
Looks like late 70s early 80s to me.
You have one of the nicest ladies dress watch, that I have seen.
Unfortunately ladies watches, especially the non- oyster cases are not highly desirable.

Just a thought but that watch has some styling cues that look a lot like the mid-late-60s Bucherer co-branded Rolex ladies' models I see on page 301 of Dowling/Hess 3rd ed "Best of Time".

I found a couple of similar but not identical watches.
Coral dial as I guessed. First one was made in 1975.
2nd one was made in 1980, and has a very similar dial.

Got the Rolex back from the dealer, it is a real Rolex, white gold, Coral, they couldn't identify the type but when opened there were number 371 and 136.

Very nice indeed!

A lot of the ladies cocktail watches have grown out of favor due to changes in fashion trends but this watch is a real stunner and it may still be relevant today. The coral really sets it off.

The 371 and 136 could be a series number but it will be really hard to track down an actual model number.

Even if relevant I want to sell it, what are the best places for selling a vintage rolex?

Marktplaats, Ebay, Chrono24. However: don't order a Porsche yet

If you go with selling it, my advice is: do your comps research before listing and either be prepared to be patient or be prepared to take a hit, even in the retro market this will need the right buyer. Or possibly placement with the right auction, which will also eat into any gross profit on your side.
