Art Deco beauty

I've been on the lookout for a nice rectangle shaped art-deco inspired dress watch for a while.

The obvious choice - a Reverso - didn't do it for me. It does look 1930's but not particularly art deco and certainly not very daring.

The Patek Philippe Gondolo in yellow gold with the stepped case is perfect but out of reach financially. The Rolex Prince is nice in pics but in real life I was left lacking.

The obvious hunting ground is therefore ebay - perhaps for something vintage?

This is where I scored a Gruen Curvex. Not a vintage one mind you but a brand new one. I'll let the photos do most of the talking.....

The packaging is first rate.

Here's a picture of the dial. It's matt silver with guilloche hatching and highly polished applied numerals. Polished silver coloured breguet style hands

Engraved case back

Signed buckle

Obligatory wrist shot

Another crown side shot

And finally another wrist shot

This is easily the most comfortable watch I've ever worn. The curved case hugs the wrist contours perfectly. It's thin enough to slip under a shirt sleeve and is very discreet.

I love the attention to detail and art-deco styling. It's become my regular dress watch pushing the Calatrava into second place.

For all you watch buffs here's a beautiful movement shot...

In all seriousness it's actually not a bad movement. A six jewel Ronda swiss quartz movement. I'm also impressed with the case. The back is well machined and everything slots into place nicely. Even the screws feel well made.

Whilst it is not a vintage curved movement like the originals I personally think it's a great compromise.

Not a fan of rectangular watches, but I do like how that case is curved.
