GMT II Insert

Hello,

I'm considering purchasing a GMT Master II. Like the Coke bezel (actually had one years ago that I sold for $2000. Kicking myself now. My question is, if I purchase a newer GMT Master II with the black insert and then purchase a coke insert, will it fit?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

If by "newer" you mean the year 2008+ reference 116710 GMT's with ceramic bezel, then no, the older aluminum bi-color inserts will not fit.

Rolex GMT insert

Thank you for the information. Can a black/Red bezel (ceramic) be purchased that will fit? The watch is 2008.

Inserts on the ceramic 116710 aren't replaceable by the end-user.

Without going too far down a rabbit hole in answering, the straightest answer to your question is 'no'.

There's no ceramic black/red insert. And the blue/red insert is pretty much impossible to get.

Not that I would try, but there is a Chinese company called Parnis that has ceramic Coke and Pepsi bezels. I don't or wouldn't venture to guess if they have the same measurements. If you are adventurous I'm sure the insert could be popped out on your own, but at the risk of it cracking because they are thin, no thank you.

There's no way to take the insert out without breaking it if you don't have the correct tools. Same applies for getting one into the bezel.

If someone wanted to go all Macguyver I bet you could heat it up to get whatever is bonding it to loosen then pry it off but it would more than likely need even pressure all around so it wouldn't crack if it's ceramic.

You would have an easier time taking off the whole bezel with the insert which can be done with a knife and popping a new 1 back on with a different insert, plenty of videos online.

I wouldn't have the steady hand or gene that makes someone take risks like that to try.

First of all, they're pressure fit so there's no bond keeping it together, just friction.

Taking it off can indeed be done with a knife and I have done that on numerous occasions but every time you take the bezel off, even with the correct Rolex die you will need a new hytril washer.

Taking the insert out cannot be done without the correct toolset, you will destroy the insert. And if you buy a seperate insert and bezel you will not be able to fit the insert inside the bezel without the tools either.

When pressing the bezel onto the case you will again need the right upper die, and a regular bergeon case press will do. A new washer in place and gently press it on.

There's just too much stuff needed and too much risk involved to DIY anything on the ceramic models.
