I saw amajor display of Rolex divers and flighers yeasterday and my eyes kept being drawn back to the LV-C as it really stood out. It was positioned next to a LN-C.

If its going to be the watch you're going to wear every day for years to come then go with Black (standard issue) - its on my list for 2011!! Good luck with your studies and good luck with your choice of Rolex.

I have the black dial on my tt Sub-C.
I looked at various watches for, literally, years before I got mine. Black, as noted in previous posts, goes with everything. If you wore a generic brand green watch to a formal occasion, I doubt how "put together" you'd look to the other attendees. Even if it were the Rolex, most of them would not be devotees such as those of us here in the Forum and recognize it for what it is. I would submit most people aren't even aware Rolex makes a watch in green. IMHO, the green is a fad of sorts whereas the black (and blue) dial will be in demand for years to come. It's a classic for a reason (and not because I bought one). And, I recognize I am off-putting those who have the green dial. What I've written is simply my highly biased opinion, not a fact. Good luck in your search. You are very fortunate to be able to get one in either case. Happy New Year and best of health to all of you. |

the green is stunning! was disappointed when I saw the black one. But the advice seems to be go for the black. You need to try both on. My heart would say green, my head black

If it's likely to be your only Rolex, it's got to be black - no question.
It will go with everything and is a 50 year classic. The green was just a 50 year anniversary thing Rolex have going on. Eg the 24 hr hand on my GMT II is green representing a 50 year old model. Green is a risk and when spending that amount of your hard earned do you want that......? Unless of course you have green eyes, and often wear green and have relatives linking back to Robin Hood There seem to be a greater proportion of green subs on eBay and for longer than their black counterparts. But you need to wear them. And think about wearing it in 10, 20 years time. Fashion fads are a dangerous thing when parting with that sort of cash. But enjoy whatever you choose.... DJ |

Really??? I find the green to be gorgeous in pics but not so much in person. The green wore on me after a while. The black will never disappoint. If you need color then the bluesy is the way to go!

If you like the green sub... it's not for everybody. But having seen the 116610LN in person, I must say that the way the light plays on the dial.. is pretty freakin' nice.

Without a question I would go with the hulk. A big part of my decision to get one was because I see the regular black submariners every single day. I like Rolexes that you don't see often. I also own a Rose Gold DayDate President and a 116621 SS/RG two tone yachtmaster w/ chocolate dial. The hulk is my daily watch and it's hands down my favorite watch out of the three watches I own. Yes, the LN may be easier to wear, but the hulk stands out and that's what I love about it. It's just so different.

I am in the same boat....I have a black Aquaracer, which I like, and cant see getting the black sub cause of that. I located a discontinued 16610LV at an AD which I believe to be the last one in the area. Going to look today!!! :)

Tough one this one. Black as has been said it will go with everything and can be easily dressed down as up, however the green is much more eyecatching and i'd be willing to bet that it will not only feel more special but it will also have many admirers starting conversations with you which is always good in social events :)

To me, the new black sub is not as nice as the old one. However, the newly released green one is superb ('in the flesh', the green darker and much richer than suggested from the pictures we generally see) and beats both the older and ceramic black sub.
While being an eye catcher, the green one remains sober. Only my opinion. |

again, green haha.
I still wear my green every day, everywhere. I was concerned about it going with everything since I only have two watches now and planned to wear this one daily.. so far its great. and it goes with everything so far. |

The green on green blew me away, I like the black, but the green had that look like no one else has it, and I really haven't seen green at all, lots of black though. Anf the green had this sheen to it, couldn't take my eyes off it.
Of course I have a GMT black, but the green.......................................WOW !! Last edited by Runnin' Rebel; 18 February 2011 at 05:45 PM.. Reason: add more info |
