Can anyone speak to their personal experience getting a Rolex stolen abroad covered via insurance?

I’ve taken my BLNR to Thailand, Vienna, Amalfi Coast, Costa Rica... like anything else, be wary of where you are and decide on the ‘if it shines’ test daily/nightly anywhere you go; this goes for both parties in my opinion.

Call your insurance company. A regular policy won’t cover it but a personal property rider will. I’d guess that every insurance company has different terms and conditions so calling them will be your best source of information.

I bought my watch to wear. I plan on making memories with it. This morning I did 2 dives off the north shore of Nassau and guess what I wore..

Take your watch. Wear it. Make memories in it. Enjoy your vacation, the weather here has been mostly spectacular and the diving is superb.

I've taken my GMT Master-II to Thailand, Mexico, India, etc., and never had an issue. Be mindful of surroundings and exercise some common sense (i.e., not get black out drunk by yourself, at night time, in a foreign environment), you should be fine.

I wouldn't take it, I travel with a G shock. Why make yourself a target.

The Miranda. Just off the North Shore of Nassau about a mile from Atlantis. Fairly easy dive at 51 ft.

I wear a G Shock in the day around the pool or out and about. Take the Rolex out in the evening at the hotel

Should you take your husband (and kids) with you if your worried about crime? I'd be more worried about that than something material on my wrist..

Remember that the OP said they’re staying at a 5 star hotel and venturing out a little. That should be safe.

That being said, in the Caribbean I have traveled with lots of people that wore gold or TT Rolexes and never worried or had a problem.

I did have a gold Bulova stolen from my suitcase at the Cancun airport by security. I wore my Rolex and kept the Bulova to wear while on excursions. It was well packed and hidden. Delta paid full retail as they found a video of their security people lifting my watch.

Proper insurance coverage will give you considerable peace of mind whether traveling or at home. Your watch, and most jewelry, are probably already covered for loss due to theft by your homeowners policy. You can add an inexpensive rider to cover the loss of the watch under any circumstances, such as if it falls off while you're swimming in the Caribbean.

Take the watch (or watches) with you - just hedge your bets with the right insurance.
To meet my definition of air tight, you need to read all the fine print about what covered, for how much, and where. Don't listen to the person on the phone. It has to be in writing. And for high priced things like jewelry and watches, the general homeowner's policy will leave you in not so good shape. A have an itemized rider with the serial number of each watch, each firearm and the value insured. My main GMT has been with me to 7 continents including some very difficult places in SA and Africa. My SkyD goes mostly to civilized places.

I must be the only one that wouldn't consider taking a Rolex to Nassau. Then again, I wouldn't be taking myself there either ;)

You probably have nothing to worry about and depending on the Rolex, most probably wouldn't notice it anyway.

I’m of the general mindset that if you’re safe enough to travel with your family or loved ones, it’s probably safe to wear your nice watch.

Walk with another couple when your away from the Hotel, and enjoy your Rolex. 2 couples even better.

But I have to say this. You can become a target at any time.

There's never a problem, Until there's a Problem...!

Just be careful of your surroundings. Vacation pictures without a Rolex isn’t a vacation.
