I'm thinking of getting a submariner but was thinking whether should I go for the date one or without the date...sigh!!!

Any suggestions???

The age old question! Its personal preference here... Obviously the date is more functional... but in my opinion the ND is more aesthetically pleasing. I have a date model and it does come in handy every time i need to remind myself of the date. Nonetheless, they are both beautiful watches... cant go wrong either way.

It is a tough choice, but I figured that when I bought my SS sub, it would be the watch I'd hope to be wearing 20+ years from now, so what did I want long term. Also, the cyclops gives it that "Rolex" look and feel, and you can't mistake that its a Rolex when you see it. If you ever want to go without a date, or without a cyclops in the future, you can always go for a sea-dweller and justify it that way...

As you have an Explorer 1 - I would definitely recommend the Sub date for variety, and that iconic look. Good luck!

This one should be easy for you since with the Explorer I you already know whether you miss or want the date.

I have the 14060M for the simple reason I think it's the best looking watch in the line up. The sub date is the more popular and recognisable of the two which is either a positive or a negative depending on your point of view.

I'd like to add one aspect to the discussion: Are you buying new or pre-owned? Because the current Sub without a date has the two-line chronometre specification on the dial and IMO gives a slightly less "clean" impression than the previous no-date Sub. The chronometre text reduces the difference between the no-date and date Subs. If I were choosing between the contemporary models, I'd be more inclined to choose the date Sub.

Here is my honest opinion for you. I went through the same dilemma about 3 months ago. I went for the Sub ND in the end. Although I love the watch and will never let her go, I still yearn for the cyclops. I wish I had gotten the Sub Date. I tried on both, tried to go with the slightly understated no cyclops - and now miss it terribly.

Funny thing is now I just have to get a GMTIIC to make up for it!

They are both beautiful pieces to add to your collection. This is a good problem to have!

Thanks guys for all your valuable inputs. it's my wife, she is planning to buy it for me for Christmas present. I've check the prices for the Sub ND and with date. The difference is so much. I'm talking brand new sub. Now I might look into a pre-owned Sub with date.

I love the look without the date, but I also enjoy the classic cyclops. I think that if this were going to be my only Rolex Sub, I would definitely have to get the date version. The Sub Date is such an icon.

Also, on a practical level, I do rely on a watch's date function more than I would like to admit. If the Daytona had a date function, for example, I'd buy a Daytona tomorrow. In fact, seeing a recent thread about the Tudor and the amazing pictures of those chronographs (with date), I am considering picking one up.

I say go for the original -I was afraid I'd miss the date function, but - much to my suprise - my brain has compensated and I can actually remember the date!

I own a ND Sub and love it for it's simplicity. But which ever way you decide to go will be a good choice!!!

Jewelers say that the date version has more resale value. But if you don't care about that, then NO DATE version is really beautiful, the best Rolex in my opinion.

I like the ND for simplicity and symmetry. Also, its a PITA to have to reset both the time and date if you don't wear it for a couple of days.
