Why did you buy Rolex?
We all bought our Rolex(s) for one reason or another..many of us have multiple reasons. But if you could give only one reason, what is it?

I haven't bought one yet, but I am getting my first Rolex sometime this year. I bought a Tissot in 2011 as my first automatic, and then I bought a TAG Heuer in 2015 as my first "luxury" timepiece. I realized TAG wasn't the nicest brand this year and sold it to help fund my Rolex. I was originally planning on getting an Omega, but soon realized my money would be better spent on a Rolex because of the increase in perceived quality and resale value.

I started with Tag Heuer way back when. Rolex was too expensive for a newly grad. But, I thought it was a cool way to celebrate completing a big project. I saw a blue Roman DJ at a watch event and bought it on the spot! Eventually said watch was used in my wedding making it more memorable. Been hooked to the brand ever since...

I bought a Rolex Sub because I found it to be a classic look while being robust.

I love the design of the Submariner & GMT. Wanted one ever since I first discovered the brand over 15 years ago.

Husband wore a Submariner for 10 years on 6 ships in the United States Navy. The watch never left his wrist. Several years later he wanted me to get a Sub but I chose instead a Pepsi GMT Master II. Bought it new in 2001 and flipped it in 2005. Missed it the minute I mailed off the package. Replaced it in 2012 with a 2005 Pepsi GMT Master II which rarely leaves my wrist. Once you try on a Rolex you really understand why people love them so much.
Cheers, Sarah |

Indisputable quality: "Wasted" a lot of money along the way learning on more common brands. But I would not have been able to appreciate the reliability/precision of the 3135 in my very used but well maintained '96 SeaDweller were it not for all the money spent along the way.

40 years from now it's a watch that will look as good as it does today.

I'm only into Rolex watches for about 6 years or so. I think it was 2012 when I got my first.
I was walking through the shopping mall on my way to the Omega store if I remember correctly and stopped to glance in the window of the Rolex store as I walked past it. I instantly fell in love with the Explorer 2. I think I preferred the black dial at that moment but as I did my research before I actually bought it I was leaning towards the white and preferred it, so that's the one I bought. I still have it now and love it as much as the day I bought it and am very happy that I bought the correct dial colour for me. I'd still love to add a black dial too some day.

I bought my SubC last year because I've wanted a Sub for 30+ years.
I've seen the prices go up and up and finally I said "now of never". I love my SubC. It's accurate, wearable daily, and even though it's got some dings and light scratches, I don't think it's lost any value. Can't beat that! |

I've wanted a Rolex since I was a young man but could never allow myself to pull the trigger on one. I settled for a TAG instead and wore that daily for about 7 years. Finally I got to the point where I could justify in my mind buying one and I haven't looked back since I/we now have 4 and I have eyes on #5 now.
So basically a Rolex brand was my grail watch because of the history and the story it tells about my life. The Explorer was my first because it is classic and timeless, much like how I like to dress, my next was the Milgauss because I'm an engineer and the SD43 hearkens to my days as a champion swimmer. |

It's a great product with exceptional customer service and an acknowledged standard. That's pretty much why - not to impress anyone else, etc. New or vintage, Rolex is a great watch.

Special occasion. The fit and look was everything I was looming for. Tapered braclet, the polishing the size. Made it feel right to buy one. Kind kf that moment when you try on clothes and just go yep this is perfect im getting it.

I bought a couple of watches over the years from various brands. I never found something that resonated, because I am a bit fussy on details. Then I bought an Omega Speedmaster Professional and thought that I finally found a solid watch. Until I bought my first Rolex. I bought my first Rolex out of curiosity, because I wanted to know what the big deal was.
Oh boy, when I wore my ceramic Submariner No-Date for a couple of days, I quickly knew why people were raving about the build quality and especially the glide-lock clasp. I ended up wearing my Sub more than any other watch, Milgauss and the BLRN included. Many more watches have since come and gone but my everyday watch is now the 116619 LB which flies pretty much under everyone's radar when worn with a rubber-b strap. It's an amazing watch, versatile, robust, and reliable. And if you meet somebody who recognizes what it is, it's a nice conversation starter :) |

It's impossible for me to answer in accordance with the brief as i have multiple reasons which are equally valid.
But all the reasons mentioned by others are among them |

Because Pope John Paul II and the Dalai Lama wore Rolexes... if it good enough for them, then it is good enough for me!

I initially bought it because I liked how it looked. After buying it, I grew to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship.

Because I wanted to. Always wanted one since I was young but I've since abused that 'want'.
