Dad is into watches, spoke highly of Rolex. Studied the brand and its history. Loved the design, craftsmanship, and reliability of the watches. Was able to afford 3 Rolex's at 28 years old at special occasions/milestones.

I don't know that I'll collect or own bunches of Rolex watches, but I do have a soft spot for the Day-Date. I'm not sure what category it epitomizes, but I grew up in South Texas in the '70s, and that's probably how I came to love the Day-Date |

It's everything. The quality, design, history. A Rolex is something I can wear and cherish for ever.

I would say because my dad had one prompted me getting my first one! Other influences impacted which one.

I was looking for a bargain when I bought my SubC.
I wanted the best-looking, most comfortable, most long-lasting, most accurate, toughest automatic dive watch for the price. Omega Planet Ocean 42 was a distant second. The case was way too thick. It was nowhere near as comfortable and classy looking as the Sub. Six years later with the Sub, the steel still looks like a million bucks with minimal care and the bezel and crystal look perfect. I wear it every day and do not baby it. |

I was celebrating a special occasion and knew that the Rolex would stand the test of time and I could pass it on someday.

Um, that would be a very generous description of Rolex. They make plenty of profit, they just don't pay it to shareholders. It goes back into the business and into coffers....and some to charity. Lots of companies are involved in giving to charity. I don't think anyone knows whether Rolex gives to charity any more than the average business.

Big shoe head here. As I got older. In my mid 30s realized that shoes doesn’t have the same appeal to me anymore and instead of buying it constantly I decided it was time to be an Adult and get a nice watch.
First expensive watch I got was a Movado, got married my wife gave me a Philip Stein and on our honeymoon I bought a Tag Heuer Carrera as my first “nice” watch back in 2011. Last year I decided to jump right into a Rolex, my oringinal plan was to work my way up to a Rolex. Got the Black sub with date last year along with Panerai. Now I’m hooked. Bought the wife one for her birthday last year as well. She bought me another one for my Birthday last year as well. Decided to get another Rolex and an Omega instead of a different brand. |

I didn't buy Rolex. I bought a GMT Master II that just happened to be made by Rolex. The brand was irrelevant to me. The watch had the design I prized, all the details I love, and a reputation for being both tough and accurate. It's my one and only Rolex watch.

Because I got tired of breaking cheap watches, like Tags and Seikos.
Even a vintage 5513 I owned and foolishly sold held up better! |

Got into watches to hand something down to my son in 15-20 years. I then got hooked and with marketing / brand / quality Rolex was a no brainer.

As a birthday surprise, I took my wife to our local AD and asked her to pick any watch she wanted. She came away with a lovely diamond indices Datejust that complements her grace and beauty to a tee.
I'd admired Rolex for many years but hadn't spent any considerable time with one - just gazing at display cases really. I had a small collection of nice watches already and never seriously considered moving into a price bracket roughly double that of my current pieces. As the months passed though, I couldn't get over how this wasn't simply a well built and executed watch. It was a whole new experience. Can't recall how many times I asked her to take it off so I could handle it, how often we discussed it, or how I simply stared as it graced her wrist. It was captivating. 6 months later I picked myself up a 116613LB. O |

Process of elimination. Tried dozens of watches and avoided Rolex because only terrible people who know nothing about watches buy a Rolex, then I realized the 5 digit sub checked all the boxes of what I wanted in an everyday watch: tough, great history, can literally wear it with almost anything.

It’s hard to be a watch lover and not end up with a Rolex at some point. That was my journey and once I had one, I had to have one. I’m a serial flipper of everything but I think the 114060 is sticking. I hope!

I got my first Rolex from my dad. We are from Myanmar. He started with a Longines and then moved on the Omega. When he finally had saved enough money he bought his first Rolex Datejust from someone else. Even though it's kinda mature looking and more for fancy occasions, I must say, the watch does grow on me. In my country, Rolex is an ultimate status symbol and most people get the full gold option.
