tbh I wasn't a huge fan of Rolex when I first started watch collecting---they all just looked like different variations of one design, which is kinda true.
With that said, the feeling of utter precision and robustness started to become really appealing to me. That's when I decided to add a Rolex to my collection. |

I just fell in love with the brand the more I researched them. I was a big Omega and Breitling guy, and bought my first Rolex which was DJ II. I love Breitling, but most felt too big and attracted too much attention.
I loved it so much but sold it as I really grew to love the SS more sportier models (Sub Hulk, Batman, YM etc.)

I bought a Rolex because Rolex seems to care about making good watches and they offer good value for money.

I've got a stack of IWCs and a Panerai. My father had a couple of Rolex Datejusts and said you'll never lose if you hang onto them - this was 20 years ago! I brought my first one 2 months ago. I always thought they were overrated, but I finally get it.

I never was aware of the great marketing machine of Rolex as I'd never seen an advert other than at Wimbledon and I didn't really take much notice of the clock. I only really knew about them as a status watch and so when I was looking to buy my first luxury watch I stayed away from them, but eventually I tried one on and the quality and feel compelled me to buy one.

Enjoy owning nice things that hold their value.
Done the stock market, now prefer tangible things even if they aren’t as good moneymakers - watches, classic cars etc.

I have a Tag Heuer and a Seiko SKX... ln 2016 I moved out of the field and into a sales position at work. In 2017 I got a $400k sale and put all the commission in the bank. I told my wife if that ever happens again I want to get a Rolex, she said ok. This year I got a $225k sale and when the commission check came I got a Rolex and what was left went to the bank.

I'm pretty sure that Rolex ads in National Geographic when I was a kid simply wormed their way into my brain.

Because of Roger Federer. I bought an Omega first but it didn't scratch the itch.

I really liked the OP 39 in gray (rhodium), so I went ahead and became a Rolex owner. I don't think I could carry off the bigger, flashier Rolexes - my other watches are my old Speedmaster and a Grand Seiko that no one ever recognizes as being anything out of the ordinary. But the OP 39 is perfect - beautiful, no fluted bezel (ugh), goes well in both casual and formal situations. And I can enjoy the fine engineering and quality of a Rolex without wearing something that gets too much attention.

I have owned many quartz watches in my lifetime but have always been fascinated by mechanical timepieces and Rolex brings a few very appealing things to the table in this regard.
1) Reliability 2) Robust construction 3) Resale value 4) These things really appealed to me and after purchasing a new TAG-Heuer a few years prior and finding out afterward that it basically wasn't worth much of anything even though I spent a couple thousand dollars on it kind of drove my interest to Rolex. The TAG wasn't particularly reliable but it is a nice looking timepiece (I had to have it adjusted after a year and a half on the wrist because it suddenly started losing 30+ seconds a day). I bought my TT Submariner a year ago and it hasn't left my wrist since. My wife liked my watch so much that she had to get one so we purchased hers in Maui last summer while on vacation (which makes it a nice memory for her). She went with a TT 31mm DJ with MOP dial, jubilee bracelet and diamond bezel. We purchased both our watches new at an AD. |

some other forum said..
"drama free ownership" long time collectors will relate.. when you first get into the watch game..you want a rolex..then you want rarity and sold the rolex to get into other brands...then you realized that Rolex are robust and drama free... and back came back to rolex

Someone I highly respect who wears a Rolex told me I should get one also. So I bought a BLNR a few weeks after. Super difficult to own just one but I haven't found anything else that screams at me the way the BLNR does.

In my infancy days of watch collecting when I started this expensive habit, I had an Omega and because Omega collectors always talked and compared Omega with Rolex, so naturally I start to check out Rolex too. My first Rolex was a TT Datejust 2.
Nowadays, Rolex is just one of the many brands I collect.
