Buy the Tudor and start building your AD relationship. Once you get the call for your Sub, then you can ask for the next watch you wanted in your collection.

Wait. Don’t pay premium with gray and don’t buy another watch unless you want it.

Going grey for a sub is fine if you want to light $7,000 on fire.

I think those two watches would make a fantastic pair.
Consider being frank with your AD that you are committed to the Sub as a first preference. And that you would consider the Tudor (a) because you like it, and (b) if it will help your relationship. Also ask if it will hurt/delay your chances of getting the SUB. I think your AD will appreciate your thoughtfulness and commitment to the Sub - those will help you. |

If you're at the point where you're considering, then maybe take the time to consider other watches from Rolex/Tudor (including vintage and neo-vintage) or even other brands. $15k gives you a lot of options.

If I was going to consider spending $15k Grey for a SS submariner, I’d go back to the AD and say you’re interested in a Bluesy or CHNR.

Can’t your VIP friend just ask for the watch for themselves? Surely this will be the quickest route to getting the watch.
The intro to the SA does not seem to have put you anywhere much ahead of a walk in that showed genuine interest. If that is not an option for whatever reason, as others have suggested, do a systematic outreach to all ADs within a reasonable travel distance and will at least improve your odds. |

I wouldn’t pay $15k for a Sub. The gray price for a Sub is, to me, perhaps the most ridiculous Rolex mark-up there is. Submariners are by all accounts not rare. In fact, I’d bet they are the most common professional model received by ADs, bar none, and I doubt it’s even close.
Be patient. You’ll get it. |

Go, in person and reasonably dressed (a polo and jeans) to your AD
Have a conversation. Tell him this: “I’m itching for a sub. I’m considering a Tudor chrono to hold me over until a sub becomes available. Is that something we can do? I don’t want to call in a favor here, as I’d rather the sub - but if it’s easily doable and won’t hurt my chances of a sub, I’d love to have it” This will either expedite your sub, or get you both watches in short order. Trust. |

I'd never purchase anything from greys - only sell to them for a profit

I wouldn't be too sure. My AD is a friend and I have a very extensive purchase history....I'm waiting 17 months now and counting for a SD43....I'm a matter of a few weeks from going grey and paying the premium. This nonsense has gone on FAR too long.

The nonsense is thinking you need a watch so bad that you’d pay twice MSRP just to have it now.

The only thing the Tudor will do for you is have you spend money on a watch you don't want. From the limited conversation you posted, I'd say wait for the AD Sub. The premium you are paying to go Grey isn't worth it (In my opinion).

Wait for the sub. I'll almost guarantee if you get the Tudor chronograph first it'll collect dust once you get the sub.

You have 2 options: Wait it out....
OR Get the sub you want, when you are ready for it (if that's now, get it). If/when your AD calls, sell your grey sub and purchase the one at retail. You will lose a little for sure probably 2k +/-. So you will be in for Retail + what you lost on the grey one. The Tudor is, IMHO, a waste of time. |

1. Why? It's got fake rivets FFS.
2. Grey.

You want a Sub. Your closed friend already introduce you to the SA.
I say wait and get it new from AD. Ask your SA for the Panda Tudor as well. |

While you want to scratch that itch with the Tudor, the sub is what you want. That Tudor is cool and having 2 would be a nice start to a collection and give you something to wear and give you the option of having something different now and again on your wrist. I would wait for what I want first and bulid from there. Ive been there close to your situation and understand. Think about the 2 options, flip a coin and when its in the air you will know what you really want. IMO Good Luck!

Get the Sub via gray, wait for your friends’ AD to get you the sub, then sell the sub you got from Gray. BAM!
