Go grey for now. Then flip the sub when the AD eventually delivers, to get some of your money back

To answer the question, I would not buy any watches just to get higher on the mythical waiting list, which doesn't really exist, as many have learned. |

I think you should just be patient and wait for the Sub. You can always go grey market if things don’t work out with the AD. Just give it some time.

This. Best of both worlds... don't settle for the one you don't want, you'll lose a bit on the Tudor anyways when you get bored and/or sell it because your sub came.

Get the Sub, either from the AD or secondary market. Never settle.
Also, that new Tudor chrono, while handsome, has a design flaw. For a couple of hours each day that fat hour hand obscures the sub-dials, making the chrono difficult to use. |

I feel this is good advice.

Don’t pay $15k for a Sub.

Wait. Tudor is not the first name I think of when I think of chronographs.

The Tudor Chrono won't make much a difference as far as establishing a purchase history is concerned. The main thing that I'd be interested in is if purchasing the Tudor would hurt your place in line for the Sub. If not, and if you like the Tudor, my approach would be:
1. Buy and enjoy Tudor Chrono now from the AD. Excellent watch, and will pair nicely with a Sub. 2. Wait and buy the Sub at retail from the AD. It will eventually happen. Best wishes |

It would be a nice pair to have both the Tudor chrono and the sub. Talk with your AD, I'm sure they'll be happy to take more of your money. The only way you can determine this is by having a discussion with them.

Wait for the sub. Give it a few more months before you go gray.

I'm in the same boat as you - also in the Chicago area - and wanting the same watch (for me, 126610LN)....
My AD told me flat out that unless I'm going to buy something else (jewelry, other brand watch, etc.), to forget about it... I won't get one until Rolex inventory is plentiful everywhere, or I spend very serious money on other items in the store... He was not rude - just honest. I even offered to pay for the watch in full, and they won't even take my money.... They won't even pretend to take my name for "the list". If we want the sub, its gray market or nothing.... I'm probably going gray because I don't want a Rolex collection, so I'll never build a "real" relationship with an AD. I just want the sub date. My only reservation is I've never even seen a 126610 in person.... I have to spend the cash just to try one on.... Know of any place in Chicago where they have a not-for-sale demo on the floor? |

Here’s the hard truth: There is no shortage, but there is strong demand. AD’s are getting deliveries regularly and the Submariner is probably one of their most frequent shipments. For whatever reason, and there could be many, your AD has decided it’s not your time to get one. At least not yet, and maybe no time soon.
I’d probably wait until Christmas and then go grey if I really wanted one and could stomach paying almost 2X retail. |

I like that Tudor. If you genuinely like it, I would assume that it can only help...if you can get your hands on it that is. Congrats on getting your MBA.

Exercise patience, breathe deeply and calm down. The Sub will come, and the Tudor is a great watch to keep your interest.

I think there’s better chronos for less $$ than the Tudor offering. Pretty ready to go as far as to say that statement is a fact

Really? Could you give an example? Personally I don’t think you can beat Tudor quality for the price. They are the original most bang per buck manufacturer imho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Being patient is fine, but personally, if you know thats THE watch you want then I'd go grey and get it on my wrist asap to enjoy. At this point you're down to two likely scenarios.. one day you get the call for the sub, great! Buy it and sell the grey one and you're golden. Now, maybe you won't get the call, well then you've been enjoying the sub this whole time so no regrets. jmo

Don't compromise on what you really want ... it will only lead to regret later.

Tudor's movement is a Breitling movement, yes? Breitling itself has got a few chronographs that would be a good consideration. Alternatively, Longines Spirit chronograph (blue sunburst dial, gorgeous), Sinn chronographs, Omega planet ocean chrono, never mind the Speedy itself. There are lots of alternatives to Tudor's chronograph, if one is looking for a chrono. Are they better than Tudor, or similarly priced, or ... one can do some research. But they are out there.

Spend a day calling every AD within a direct 2 hour flight from your location to theirs. Tell them what you’re looking for. Don’t tell them you’re from out of state.
A bunch of them will tell you to come in and meet them. Skip those guys. Keep calling. With some luck, eventually you’ll get a dealer or two who is easy to talk to and straightforward. Ask them to take your contact info. Again, with some luck, you might get the call sooner than you think. Then you can just book a flight to go pick up your watch. Even after buying a first class ticket, you’ll still have saved several thousand dollars over gray market prices. I blanket called every AD in NYC/Westchester/NJ last month and got a ND Sub within 2 weeks. |

I would pay the gray market price and get what you want. When you compromise, it never gives you the same feeling.
I actually like Tudors and have one that I wear a ton. It's my beater, but came well after my first 3 Rolex watches. If this will be your everyday watch, get what you want. |
