WATCH of the MONTH #2
~The Rolex 1665 Mark l Double Red Sea-Dweller and the proto type Submariner Bracelet~
My pick for this month is the rare & highly desirable sport styled watch known by collectors as the 1665 Mark 1 Double Red Sea-Dweller. The model featured in this post was among the first introduced by Rolex in 1967. The early version and the most rare, referred to as the Mark 1 dial, comes with a "Patent Pending" case back as seen below. These cases were produced with serial numbers ranging from 1.7 to 2.2 million. With enhancements to the durable case, this model tripled the water depth rating that of the 5513 Submariner...from 660 feet to 2000 feet. This performance was made possible by a release case valve that allows gases to escape for decompression purposes. The helium escape valve, designed by Rolex & used during the early 60’s in partnership with a French industrial deep-sea diving company, was used for deep water dive projects. Later in the same decade, Rolex produce the Sea-Dweller 1665 model with an escape valve for the general market place. Bob |

Love the 1680 SRS style & I think they're one of the Rolex classics...by definition: a work of art of recognized and established value.
Phillip is writing the next Watch of the Month & we'll see what's up his sleeve. Bob |
