72 DateJust // First post // introduction

Hi all,

The is my first post on this forum.

My name is Chris and I own a 1972 Rolex DateJust 1601 Wideboy. I absolutely love it. I wanted to own something that feels permanent. For some reason I have this strange belief that objects can sometimes absorb experiences - places you've been, people you've seen - and it's comforting to look down at your wrist and realize that it's still ticking and that you have somehow both been through the same experiences together. For me, as a professional photographer, I like having my watch on through all of the interesting places I go: from the Alps in Italy for a commercial shoot to Sing Sing prison for a magazine article. My watch becomes my well-weathered comrade - like a cozy blanket (albeit an expensive one). Anyways, just wanted to take the time to introduce myself and speak from experiences that I'm sure a lot of people in this forum can relate to.

Looking forward to reading other people's stories and experiences!

Welcome Chris. The sense of history is a big part of the appeal of vintage objects.
Whether you make your own provenance or know where your watch has been it always makes it more interesting.

Nice DJ!

Not to burst your bubble, but that’s not a wideboy. Attractive watch nonetheless.
