Decision time...

Been shopping around lately to add to my collection and was originally going to go with a rolex explorer but now that I had the chance to try one in person I just can't get that into it. While I love that the speedmaster is an old school watch that you can still buy brand new today, I have the opposite feeling about the explorer.

So I've officially come to a 4 watch decision point. Check the poll to vote but they are as follows.

Omega Railmaster Blue Denim. Would buy on bracelet but probably put on a tan leather strap. Dial looks cheesy in pictures (like its actually denim) but is insane in person especially under bright light.

Omega Seamaster 300m. Really like the blue but would probably purchase the black just because it works so well with everything. Again buy on bracelet. Wear on leather or maybe even the rubber strap. Like that it has a see through case back so I can waste time looking at it backwards.

IWC Pilot Spitfire. Had a chance to try this on at a boutique the other day as the try on model is making the rounds. Really like the dial and lume even though I thought I'd hate it.

Tudor Black Bay 58. Would buy on bracelet but again put on a leather strap. Not a big fan of the gilt, but have a dealer that says I can have one on my wrist by may first with no deposit. Might even put on a rubber strap if I can figure out which everest band fits on it. Does anyone know?

I would say it somewhat depends on what you currently have in your collection but I think the Seamaster is the best value among those on your list and the one I would get among those four.

If you are having this as your one watch, SMP all day. It’s a great watch and super stunning in person. You can easily make it work on a bracelet and strap, and it’s dressy and casual at the same time.

If you have a diver in the collection, I actually vote for the IWC. I think it’s clean, simple, and the perfect size. Also IWC finally has an in house movement in it which it usually reserved to the higher priced pieces.

Let us know what you pick!

Write-in vote question...have you tried on a 5-digit Expl. II?

I 100% second this. I would seriously consider the EXP II as an option.

Absolutely beautiful in person.

I personally love my Explorer, but I can see how it would be underwhelming to some. Its versatility and jack of all trades nature leaves it a bit bland. Out of your choices I'd also favor one of the Omega 300M variants. Had an opportunity to try on the blue dial version recently. It's awesome in the metal. A bit thicker than an Explorer, and you have to be okay with the He escape valve. Legibility is top notch, wave dial is interesting to gaze at, etc. I think Omega knocked it out of the park with this version.

You’ll eventually regret not getting a Rolex, so none of the above.
