Incoming King Seiko

Courtesy from our friendly neighborhood TRF Moderator
Adam (Old Expat Beast); I Just recieved my first King Seiko, a 4502-8010 from 1971. The condition is outstanding and Adam was amazing to work with.

So glad I picked up this piece. Now hopefully I don't fall deep down into that vintage Seiko rabbit hole...

Without further delay.

Thanks all.

I love the idea of owning a watch from an interesting time in Seiko history, where KS and GS were in friendly/spirited competition.

Thanks again all!
I love it; It's been seeing plenty of wrist time since I got it.

Lovely! I'm intrigued by the old turtle-cased KSs and GSs. I kept an eye out in Tokyo, but couldn't find one to try on. Could you take a photo with your GS61 to get an idea of the difference in proportions?

Damn, didnl't you just get a vint Grand Seiko too? Nicely done on both!

I have a vintage Lord marvel (which I like a lot) and would love to add a King and/or Grand.

Not the best picture, but it shows the similarities. The KS 45 is marginally wider because of the case design. The GS 61 is slightly thicker (added day complication) and has more weight to it.
I will say, I like the KS version of the 45 better than the GS version (4522-7000). IMHO, the uninterrupted case lines fit better than the angular "batwing" style GS45.

I love the Lord Marvel as well, congrats!
Although I've just gotten both, I will say that both the KS and GS have been well worth it and I would recommend either. They both are easy to wear, have classic styling, are easy to operate and can be worn as a dress piece or with casual attire.

They're gorgeous. Thank you for that. I don't think it's the day-date complication that increases the thickness, but rather the automatic vs manual.

Now I have to find a 45KS (preferably turtle) to go with my 45GS

They are absolutely perfect, aren't they?

I just wish Seiko would re-release them entirely as-was, but with a warranty and new parts. There would be no better watches on the planet.

Forgot to mention the auto winding rotor adding to thickness. You are definitely right there. The rotor is likely the biggest contributor to the weight difference as well (it feels weighty when it spins).
Good thing about KS is they seem to still be relatively unknown to the larger audience, so it should be more competitively priced.

Yes. Most of modern GS doesn't appeal to me as much mostly due to the sizes. I wish they would have more offerings in these classic, thin, compact proportions.
