Am I crazy to flip a SD for a SubC?
I have liked the SubC for a while now. The only thing that really stopped me from getting it is the SubC is not different enough to the 16600 SD. Not to mention that the SD is a classic and I can't get them new anymore.
I have been wearing the SD as a daily beater and it reminds me why I love it so much. But when I put on my GMT2C, I then imagine how great the SubC would be - the best bits of the SD and GMT2C in one watch. What do you think?

Personally, I think you'd have to be Bat-Sh*t Crazy to make that flip, but that's just me.

I wouldn't do it. I did it once and I regretted it. Of the two, other than the bracelet & clasp I think the SD is far more superior than the 116610.
Good luck! |

if you like both, save for the sub and don't swap the sd.

Sub Cs are a everywhere - the SD is getting very hard to find. I wouldn't make the swap.

in what exactly is the sd better? they have the same movement, i doubt that the op uses the depth rating difference of the two watches so other than that all remaining differences are aesthetic.

I have recently acquired a brand new 'M' series SD even though I had the classic Sub (16610) and Sub C (Hulk). Always thought that the Sub is THE watch but the SD changed that instantly.
The SD is more robust with a nice weight distribution which was not too heavy IMO. Furthermore, the cyclops-less crystal made the watch cleaner, more legible and classic. Agreed that Sub C has the better bracelet and clasp. But in term of overall package, my ranking for my three watches would be: (1) SD (2) Sub C (Hulk) (2nd due to the charm of the and better bracelet over the 16610) (3) Sub 16610

There are plenty of recent threads highlighting this question. No reason for me to re-create the wheel. At the end of the day, it's my opinion & my opinion only.

I Flipped my SD for a GMTc. I miss my SD like mad however I have always wanted a SDDS which will be my next purchase (wife permitting). I felt having a SD and SDDS didnt make sense and I like the GMTC so I did it. If I wasnt moving house this year and having extensive work done to my car, I would have all 3 in flash.
If i was in your shoes now, I would keep the SD and start saving for the Sub C they are not hard to get and not getting any scarcer. Both watches have the same functionality so you are not missing out there.

me personally i wanted an sd, tried it on along with a gmtIIc and felt like they were from different milleniums. the sd, being a nice and good watch from decades ago felt like a kid's toy compared to the gmtIIc. than when i wanted to buy the gmtIIc i tried on the subc and felt that the subc was even better than the gmt. this is my opinion, i felt this way so i wouldn't write down that it is better i only write down that to me personally the subc seems to be a better fit.

SD 16600 is one of the few watches that I would not give up under any circumstances.

only challenge to the SD is its a bit thicker... if this hasn't been a problem for you, then its a no brainer.... SD all the way.
dial is so much cleaner without bubble and a great contrast to your GMT. Dollars to Donuts you'll regret trading it. |

i would love having a variety watches but if i felt any of them inferior i would swap or sell them. i love my subc unconditionally and wouldn't swap it for any other watch.

+1. My thoughts exactly. The SD is a complete classic. Keep it and save for the SD.

Thanks all for the input. Yes, I am a bit worried that after I flip the SD, I would regret it. By the way, I don't want to start a debate on "which is a better watch". I think both watches have their merits and I'll want to leave it at that.
That is why I have been wearing the SD daily to find out why I love it in the first place. It's such a classic looking watch and I don't think I'd be bored with the look. I am not a diver, so the additional depth rating does not add any value to me. The cyclops or lack of doesn't really bother me. The thicker SD case doesn't bother me, in fact I love it. That leaves the bracelet. Admittedly, it's one of the reasons I like the SubC, along with the maxi dial and super case. As I said earlier, I think the SubC is not "different" enough to the SD for me to justify keeping both. But that's me. I did consider the LV being different enough to be in the collection but I think I'd get bored with the green. The only other new Sub range I like is the awesome WG version. Unless I discover oil in my backyard, that will remain a dream. That leaves the LN. If it's anything like my GMT, I know I'm going to love it to bits!

Tough call..
The SubC is great with all the upgrades. My personal favorite.
However, I think you might find yourself missing that SD. A real classic. Have you considered flipping the GMTC for a SubC? |

There is a reason someone is willing to swap a Sub C for a seadweller. You can get a Sub C anywhere, SD is gone but for those willing to part with theirs. I wore a DD for years and have been wearing a SD for about 6 months now. I still have the DD but my SD gets most of the wear time now since my oldest son took my Milgauss GV. I would ask for it back but he is bigger than me now LOL

In my opinion, the Sub C and the GMT IIC are very similar in size and looks, so why get the Sub C when you already have the GMT?
