Wow, simply stunning. I have not seen a GS in the flash (yet) but this video kind of explains what people mean when they say "you have to try one on"

Yes, usually around 13-14mm easily. Seiko are not know for their thickness.

That's true. And with 100m of wr to boot, it's capable of pretty much anything you can throw at it. It's almost like a sports watch in disguise.

Great video! I love that GMT.

I never really believed it when people praised GS so highly and said that you had to try one on to appreciate it. But then I tried one on! There's no way to understand how damn great they are until you have it on your wrist and feel its comfort, and see how light plays off of the many different faceted surfaces every time you move your wrist.

I had to have one!

Grand Seikos are some of the very few watches where the incredible polishing actually comes through in pictures and videos.

It's even more amazing in person.

As if the quality of the hand polishing wasn't enough, that dial texture is also unbelievable.

I have been looking at this watch on and off for some time now. Who knows...

I have to respectfully disagree with members here, I have never seen a video or photo of a Grand Seiko that does it justice, I really haven't. The light sparkling from the many angles and polished surfaces is just amazing. I have two, have tried to capture the sparkle but failed miserably.

Stretch some bug screen across your camera lens and use point source lighting (a candle works nicely).

They also sell special filters which have a cross scratch pattern on them but bug screen works nicely and is probably free in your house somewhere.

There is a reason they use lots of tiny halogen lights in the stores. Makes them sparkle more! Especially diamonds!

If you want to see the dial texture of Snowflake, check the pics on this thread and post. It appears literal 'snowflake'

However frankly I would not buy one and the reason is that because of their association with a department store type quality watch that has hurt them when it comes to brand recognition. I just finished buying one of their R34 automatic watcha and here is a picture. it's a nice looking watch comes with a sapphire crystal but frankly when you have a watch that looks almost identical to a grand seiko it diminishes the brand in comparison to to say Rolex Omega or even Tag Heuer. Whether or not the quality is better or not most people look at the name when it comes to watch in North America.

That GMT is amazing. I was torn between that one and the Snowflake. I hope you pick it up!

I guess it depends on why you wear watches.

So damn beautiful! The dial work and finishing on the hands and markers is second to none on them. I must say the GMT I tried on did feel akward and top heavy on my wrist. Then again, my SDc has a similar fit.

Extremely beautiful. This is the first time I have seen a Grand Seiko video beautiful like that. How the movement compare with Omega and Rolex?

I love the Grand Seiko but when I known it make in Japan not Swiss, I do not how to measure the grade of the movement. Which is better? Thanks

I may be wrong, and please correct me if I am, but my understanding is that the Japanese (and for that read Seiko) Chronometer standards exceeded those of COSC, forcing the updating of the COSC standards.

In reality does it really matter where a watch is made? For all I care they could be made in a Chinese sweat shop (OK, slight exaggeration there, I don't support sweat shops), if the movement can match or exceed COSC that's good enough for me.

Grand Seiko are stunning watches and massively under-rated. Yes there's the issue stated in another post that their association with "department store" watches makes them less appreciated by the less knowledgeable, but to me that's a bonus. I hadn't really been aware of GS until a few years ago, now a birth year one is on my grail list.

One day I will have one of these. I've already missed one (not just birth year, but birth month!) because I was too slow to pull the trigger, it won't happen again:

Who cares if it's a fossil, timex, etc. If you like it and get enjoyment from it, why worry what others think? I can understand some trepidation if you buy to resell, but buying to wear, I don't see where it makes any difference. My cars are old and beat up but they serve the purpose I need them to serve, my 14060m is the "cheaper" no date model and a 2 liner at that, but I think the 4 lines look too busy and I don't care for the hassle of setting the date on it twice a week when I wear it. Wear what you like and enjoy and to hell with perception of others.

I find it nice that most people don't know what I am wearing, I'm not bothered what people think about my watch selection. I would say though, when someone who "knows" about watches notices my GS, it is always a conversation starter. Most have not seen one before in the flesh and are amazed at the quality.
