Icon17 Russian watch movement

Hi folks,

I recently bought a Russian manual winding watch (Slava, with it's twin barrel 2414 movement) for a few bucks and I had some fun disassembling and re-assembling it this weekend.
The watch works but the balance has a low aplitude and I think it has something to do with the amount of old oil and dust inside this movement.

I did this for practice purposes only, as you can see I didn't do this on a proper watchmakers working bench and mat.

I haven't learned how to use the cleaning aparatus in school and how to oil a movement yet, I will clean and oil this movement when I've learned how to do that.

Thanks Marc.
It's a lot of fun, just get a pair of watchmaking tweezers and a good set of Bergeon screwdrivers (perhaps second hand) and you can get old working movements from ebay for a few dollars.
Make some pictures while you disassemble and try not to lose or break any parts.

Thanks Tom!

Looks like fun. I like your advice not to lose any screws. Too late for me.

Have fun.

Hey Bas

Thinking of getting the Bergeon or the Horotec set . . .

I only have experience with the Bergeon set, and I must say they're very nice!

Good stuff! Are you sure you'll get it to work again? I would be scared stiff.

Excellent! Thanks for turning me onto that movement. I am curious what kind of power reserve to expect from the twin barrels?

Mine lasts 42 hours when fully wound, out of the box it should run 47 hours.

Good advice on taking pics. I've stripped down a couple of clock movements and always took pictures, came in real handy on one. I'd like to start on pocket watches one of these days, but I'm not going to mess with my Hamilton railroads.
