A relative of mine was an American realist artist that founded the Ashcan School of American Art, can you guess his name?

I think it would be great to mix well known pieces with some nice homemade paintings from our members (and their partners or friends, of course).

I used to paint when I was a teenager and I won a competition at a strawberry picking farm too so I was very talented don't you know but I just don't have the time to really paint now and I think I find it a bit too stressful rather than relaxing.

Dale Nichols "Red Barn" painting. Love the painting and looked at it in my parents house many years. The road draws you in, the sled feels like it is moving, huge tree, house is beautiful, young boy waving and running down the walkway, mom standing on the porch, and the Red Barn dominant in the background. One thing that has always bothered me is the cold weather since I've always been in the West. All in all a wonderful painting.

One of my favourite artists whose work never ceases to make me feel good is the legendary Norman Rockwell. Here is one of my favourites.

That's some great work Kristofer, I love it.
Quick question for the painters around here, how often (if ever) do you gamble out a painting you are in the process of making and start over on the same canvas? Do you like this process? Sometimes I am in the middle of it and I really like certain forms or lines but then I get the urge of going over it just for the sake of it and make a big gamble. I risk losing some details I really liked and will never reproduce for something that may very well come out even nicer to my eye, I know it's a process (with, perhaps, a different thought in it) that many painters I admire used and I want to know how you feel about that.

He’s an African American artist that specializes in this style of art. I got to meet him. A ver nice guy. Modertely successful in terms of modern artists.

Thanks!! Great avatar btw! I’ve got a bunch more at the office and around my place; but I️ almost severed both thumbs Krismas ‘16 and haven’t picked up a brush just yet since. I️ am a very instinct based(i.e. no formal training) and often change the entire piece multiple times. I️ add layers until I’m satisfied. Haha probably why oil never works for me, I️ simply cannot wait. I’ll post my mother’s BEAUTIFUL work when I️ visit tomorrow :)

That's incredible, nice work!
The texture on it is fascinating really. Indeed, thank you for sharing. Quote:

That's what I wanted to know, I was watching a Corey D'Augustine video where he would show how to paint like Willem De Kooning and the second part of his video was him going over a lot of colors and textures and ending up with something much more neutral and plain. During this part, he was saying that one should not be afraid to gamble out what's on the canvas for the colors on the underpainting would show here and there and the brush/knife strokes would still be visible through the other colors. I have done it a few times on faces I'd do just to subtle out some details and would end up trying to redo them on top of it, the final result can be nice at times but there were instances where I'd regret the loss of a certain aspect of a very line I would thoroughly like. Then again, I decided to follow his advice and try it on backgrounds I had started, I would chicken out in the beginning and try to dillute it as much as I could as to not lose what was under and in the end I ended up going all the way in and covering pretty much all that was underneath...well, I'll be darned if I don't say he was right, certain parts of the underpainting (colors and textures) do appear through it and it adds a lot to the final result.

I’ve always had an appreciation for art. I am not much of an artist but with some instructions, I was able to end up with this using some acrylic paint.

Have you ever watched a Bob Ross video? I like your approach with this painting and it reminds me of his tutorials with the mountains and reflections on water.

Loved to visit the National Gallery this new year's eve. It's close to the Royal Palace in Oslo.
