Bought a 1998 Toyota 4Runner on Saturday

That is the perfect truck for a 16 year old. It’ll definitely go 300K. My son has a 1999. I used to live where the high school parking lot was filled with new BMWs, $50K pickups, Range Rovers, you name it. Not healthy for kids. If they are entitled at that age, what will it be like when they’re adults.

I think you’re doing the right thing. Your kid will appreciate it even more after a little blood, sweat and tears fixing it up.

There is only one bad thing about the 4Runner. They are very thirsty.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Fortunately, he isn't going to be driving it very far for now. He plans to get a job this summer and other than that he will just drive it to school and to the beach. I might take him surfing with it this summer, I have a few boards in my garage from when I used to surf. Would help me get in better shape too.

Great SoCal truck! He’ll always remember it and the story about getting it in shape with his Pops. Awesome!
