48¼ hours PR on a full wind...from start to finish!!

Well guys, finally did it!!

Put the new TT Blue Sub on the test bench for Power Reserve capabilities.

Managed to squeeze out 48 hours and 15 minutes from a full 50 turns of the crown (noted time and date at start of experiment!) to a dead HALT this morning!!

Now that's not too bad for a watch that beats at 28,800 A/Hr.!!

Slightly off topic.

I have not wound my watch since I've had it (3 months). Just normal self winding stuff.

That sounds like a good idea to test the power reserve every couple of years.

Are the watches at a dead stop before the 50 winds? I always suspected they'd go over 24 hours but I had no idea it was closer to 48...

Just unscrew the crown and give it around 50 turns of the crown!!

It really doesn't matter what the state of the watch is BEFORE the winding. The whole idea is TEST the Power Reserve with the watch mainspring at FULL wind. So you just give it 50 turns of the crown to be absolutely sure that the mainspring is fully wound.

Now do you use a unidirectional winding technique or a bi-directional technique. I think you ought to do a comparison test on both types of winding to see if you get better power reserve one way or the other.

It's important to know these things.

JJ,
If my math is correct that would be a total of 1,389,600 ticks before your Rolex runs out of steam.
Not too bad, hey.

Same here, I currently only own the one SS Sub Date, Purchased it in November and have never wound it only by natural wear. I guess you could say I'm really enjoying it huh!

Hi, JJ
Was away for a while.
Great to hear that JJs favourite TT blue winds for 48 hrs. 15 mins.
I thinks all including vintage rolexs winds for about 48 hrs.
Just for some personnal experience.
My recently purchase the Tudor MC, ( manual wind) winds fully for 55 rounds, & lasts for 53 hrs. without chrono function, & 50 hrs. with chrono.

OK I need to ask a stupid question. I have the submariner LV. Are you saying that if I take the watch off, I can wind it up and let it sit I can get about 48 hours out of it? I thought it was self winding and you dont wind these watches. Also, here is my confusion. I have it on my wrist and haven't taken it off yet. What if I simply remove it and dont wind it? How long would I get then?

Yes, we know it is an automatic. Mine was an EXPERIMENT to prove to myself how long the watch would go from a FULL WIND to FINISH before coming to a grinding HALT. And I was completely satisfied with the 48 hrs. and 15 minutes I got.

To answer the latter part of your question, if you simply remove it and don't wind it FULLY, you should still get around 40~42 hours out of it.

I think you missed the "stupid question" part of the question. Being that it IS automatic, I did not think you can wind it. I thougt by just wearing it was how it works. So are you saying that you can wind this watch? And also, are you saying that by winding you THINK you may get about an extra 6-8 hours of "sit" time?

Yes, every mechanical watch (be it auto or manual) can be wound!! By giving it 50 turns of the crown, you have given the maximum tension to the mainspring and are thus able to extract the maximum power reserve out of the watch!!
