My dentist is a buddy that I met in play group at 2.

We've been like brothers for 37 years. I had an emergency and saw his dad instead of him once.

A man that hosted me at his table over decades tried to sell me on all sorts of shit.

It's just business.

I'd like to believe that anyone that actually knows my watch, realized I am savvy enough to have earned it.

If I wore a piece like that I'd expect something more than a new tooth.

Now days most people don't care about watches and don't know a Rolex from a Timex. They also realize that anyone with a credit card can wear a luxury watch. So they are most likely not impressed with your watch.

My wife always says "don't wear your watches when getting a quote from tradesmen" but I really doubt they take much notice. They WOULD recognise a nice watch however - some tradesmen here make the same sort of salaries as doctors.
Last Plumber I had spent a lot of time talking about his investment properties and wine cellar.

Sounds like the usual up-sell everyone is pulling these days. It's either that or an affinity "discount" card or company specific credit card.

Once had a car salesman almost resting his chin on the table and he pretended to reach down and pull up his sock as we sat at a table in the showroom. What he was really doing was looking up my shirt sleeve to identify the crown on my watch.

I've noticed that as well. Was at a electrical shop checking out the new Sony 4K TV and found the service was exceptional . They were really keen to sell . These were fairly young sales people as well.

Over here in Perth Western Australia with the shortage of experienced tradies , they actually make more per hour then even medical specialists. My sister is an anethetist and earns less per hour than electricians on the mines. Well we do live in the state of CUB ( cashed up bogans) , some who are even willing to pay $100 for a boutique beer

I wondered if she was laying it on extra thick b/c of the bling or if it was just standard practice at that particular practice. Suffice it to say, I will not be back.

Anyone worry that the only reason why he/she is dating you is because you wear a Rolex?

Of course people notice your rolex if it is visible. Salespeople in particular will change their behavior in some manner almost on cue. I have generally found that salespeople treat me very well if a fine watch is visible. This may be particularly evident to me because I am 25, and at this age people label you a tire kicker in some situations.

I'm sorry but your dentist seems good. They were good enough to send you to a specialist to get your infected wisdom tooth removed. If they were a money hungry place they might have done it themselves. They sell pretty teeth, so they offer you the options. Btw, i'm not a dentist by any means. If they refer you to someone else, that is good in my book.

Really? Seriously? Wearing a SS Rolex is nothing special, as much as I love your LVc. It's a dime a dozen, my friend.
Secondly that dentist was just doing her job nothing more nothing less. It's quite normal to sell your service to your clients or patients. I see nothing wrong with that.

Fair enough, but you could also say that a person willing to charge that much for a luxury item would also be a likely candidate (and good target) for expensive cosmetic procedures.

Cosmetic procedures generally aren't covered by insurance or allowed under HSA/FSA expenses. That's why they're more attractive, way more margins.

Car dealers and Jewelers! Man, you got that right. My experience too.

Note: Although not money related, I have had my watch influence the outcome of certain interactions. I have had to conduct interrogations and debrief informants/victims/subjects. Years ago, I simply began removing my watch prior to sitting down for a talk. Funny, I have also noticed that having no watch at all has been noticed...I guess they think I have all day to work them. In this case, it works to my advantage.
