Free Solo Documentary - 10 out of 10
If you haven’t seen it yet, go watch it. I saw Alex on the 60 minutes years ago, but this doc was truly great.

What I remember most about that 60 minutes piece were the fingers on his hands...they looked almost muscular.

Yeah this documentary is unbelievable. The guy is a complete freak of nature. I nearly shit myself watching it.
As far as I’m concerned it’s one of the most impressive physical feats of all time.

Very excited to watch this. I've seen Valley Uprising and Meru and loved those documentaries. Incredible feat.

Was lucky enough to see this in IMAX while it was there for a limited time. Amazing documentary -- fantastic treat to watch in that setting especially.

It must have been extremely nerve wracking for the support and film crew to watch live. Not sure how they coped ..!

Excellent movie.
I usually recommend someone watch Dawn Wall then go straight into Free Solo. |

We saw this too, but didn't know it was at IMAX. That would ratchet things up even more!

I'll look at it but my great fear at these things is number one, I don't really like heights and the second and most important ones is the fact that after you climb up something, reach your goal, celebrate, THEN you have to climb down again.Yuck.

This is still on my list to watch. I listened to him on the JRE podcast a while back, he seems like a pretty cool dude.

I can’t do more than 10 pull ups but this guy can support his body weight for minutes by just a couple fingers!!! One thing I wondered if his GF Sanni McCandless is somehow related to Chris McCandless (Into the wild) |

Check out Ed Calderon episode. He’s an interesting guy that has a crazy background with counter insurgency as a Mexican black ops guy fighting the cartels. He has some thought provoking viewpoints on where the cartels are headed (E.g. US born children of cartel leaders now coming of age here in the US)

Wow, not one dissenting view-point... OK guess I'll be the stick in the mud, yes the guy is a freak, a climbing super hero, so what, he's going to die climbing rocks. Is that something to be proud of or applaud? Not for me.
I mean yes, looking at this from an office desk and saying "boy that guy has a great sense of adventure and knows how to truly live" makes sense on some level, but his truly living, is going to kill him eventually. I feel the same way about people who climb Everest, it's not living, not to me, it's playing Russian Roulette and I value my life more than that, moreover I respect it enough to not try to monetize my poor judgement. The whole thing reeks of winged-suit eventuality to me. The top 10 winged-suit flyers in 2015 are all dead now...

This guy seems to manage the risk pretty well. Maybe he dies doing it, maybe he gets hit by a bus walking out of Starbucks. At least he's chasing his dreams and not sitting on the couch lamenting the risks of doing it. |
