Found his listing on another site, and after a bit of back and forth we managed to connect on the phone. From there the transaction was a breeze, easy negotiation, honest representation of the watch, and a good chat just to establish the ole "you're a good dude, I'm a good dude" mutual respect. The watch showed up less than 24 hours later, and was in even better condition than I expected.
