"New" Vintage Connie back from the shop!!
Well, after a frustrating day yesterday because my wife had my car keys so I couldn't go get it, this morning I tok posession of this after a new crystal and some work on the movement. I have the original bracelet, but I like the strap better. Picture kinda sucks, but I'm working on it.
Mamas - any help on the particulars would be great (year range, value, etc...). |

Damn, now that I look at it more closely, I think the dial marker is wrong for the 9 oclock. I can't remember what it looked like before. Anyone know how much to get a real one, or if this is some oddity that it had when it was made?

Hi Scooby,
Nice piece. The dial looks all original and seems to be in great condition. Unfortunately the marker at 9pm is incorrect for the watch and is a replacemnt? do you have before pics of the watch? incase the marker fell off during service and they replaced it with this one?similar thing happened to a friend of mine and his connie.. The crown is from a semaster and also incorrect for the watch. The case is nice and lugs are still sharp. There is a store in australia called watchco (search for them on google), and they deal with NOS parts.. you may be able to get correct crown and marker from them... alternatively try www.ofrei.com in california to see if they can help. This has a cal 551 mechanism and most likely dates form the early 1960's. I would say it is worth around the $600 mark.. with the correct crown and marker i would say worth around the $700 mark. |

Thanks Mamas for the tip about the crown. I hadn't even noticed. I'm pretty sure I had a regular 10 sided crown on it when I brought it in, but I have no picture of it, and I could be mistaken. Stupid me. The paperwork doesn't say the crown was replaced, only the crystal and some movement repair was done. I'm gonna call tomorrow and ask.
As for the marker, again, not sure. But whoever "fixed" it, whether it was these guys or someone in the past, did a crappy job. Any suggestions on who to send vintage watches to for future repairs? I also have an old, 30's era Longines that needs a good overhaul. |
