rolex vs folex
myself and a coworker got to talking about my watches (rolex) and he asked why i would pay so much for a watch. he said he could get a replica that would look and perform just as well. and he even went on to find a replica watch site on the internet that had some replicas that were shockingly believable. i think the site was idealreplicas.com or something. . .well anyway my point is what do you all say to nieve people like this? frankly i was attracted to rolex by my parents and also the watches astounding beauty and performance. anyway have a great easter. romel

There is no replica that can have the same performance as a rolex watch in the long term. No replica can have the same watertightness or accuracy as rolex watches
There is a reason that rolex watches are expensive and that's why you get the best material out there in your watch.

Ask him how long will the replica last? Will it hold its value? And finally, could he pass it down from generation to generation?
A Rolex or any well made time piece is more than just a watch to tell time. By the way, does he own any name brand items? If yes, you should ask him why. |

I've seen a couple of submariners on display that looks just like the real thing. Don't ya'll think it's possible that these replica websites uses a real Rolex picture for display puroses?

I have a submariner replica that was supposed to be grade a quality. They have many defects in performance even if they look as the real one. After taking it to get fix twice, I went vacations to Houston and bought the real one. I am proud to wear a real Rolex and I do not regret a beat to have expended so much for a watch. I keep hearing complements from friends and family of the beauty of the watch and the best of all, my children can wear it long time after I am gone. That is why I am after the GMTIIC.

The replica industry is a dirty one that employs bonded labour. It's black market. It's funds go into a lot of nasty pies.
That for me is reason enough - same reason I don't buy DVDs in Tesco's car park. |

Why buy a Lexus, just buy a Toyota and replace the name plates. It's the same car right?

Those replica sites yank pics from legitimate sites. The HIGH majority of the time, you won't be getting the watch you see on the site. And also, I don't know what your friends particular profession is, but I'd ask him if he thinks someone could do the same quality of work for about 1\100 of his salary. After he answers "of course not", I'd tell him watches work the same way.
Far as spending that much on a watch, I just tell people, "Hey everybody's got their thing that they splurge on". I'm sure your buddy does one of the following... has a recreational vehicle of some sort, spends more than he has to on his kids, goes on really nice vacations, has more house than he needs, ect. My point is, everyone has their thing(s) that they don't feel guilty about splurging with. Mine happens to be something that I can pass don't to generations to come or resell after years of wear for more than I have in it. Not a bad deal in my book. Good luck getting more money than you paid on that RV or ATV a few years for now |

Well, I suppose we are all different. I have a friend who can't justify paying more than a couple of hundred dollars on a watch BUT spends thousand of dollars on his computers (when no-name ones would save him plenty), and then "throws" them away after 3-4 years.
