Got a Gilt GMT for Christmas
I have been wanting one of these for a while and found one in a very small shop in my area. It was a little rough as it had an aftermarket bezel and insert as well as a broken jewel and loose rotor.
I just got it back from my watchmaker today but not sure what to do about the hands. Undecided about having a new set relumed to match, keeping them as is or attempting to find a vintage matching set. |

Wow what a beauty. I'd just have them relumed to match, then take your time to find a matching set in future.

I would do this as well honestly. I would rather a relumed set than a fully chipped off tritium. You can always take your time to later hunt a matching set of hands. I am relatively new to vintage, but this is what I would do. I understand that a good watch maker will make it near impossible to tell the hands were relumed unless checked with a loupe. That will do for now! Wear at best health! |

Congratulations! Gilt is so awesome. Looks like you found a nice insert and I dig the rivet bracelet on it.
I would relume the hands while looking for a tritium set. Some watchmakers are pretty good at matching the hands up. Heard of people using old parts to get tritium to mix in for an original look. |

That's beautiful! I think the hands are kind of cool as is but maybe hard to read.

Thanks all I am really enjoying this watch!
I am in no hurry to correct the hands and will probably live with them for a while to see if I can find a nice matching set. You never know what you'll find stopping in small watch shops :). |

Very nice, congrats. I'd look for another set of hands to match. Just the two, of course!

Hope you got a good deal on it Justin! Nothing like stumbling on an under priced gilt, even if it is a little rough. Found my 'a little rough' gilt 5513 just that way on another forum.

Big congrats on your GMT gilt.
Personally, i'd keep them as is. The "skeleton" hands on your watch are aesthetically pleasing to me and it adds an exclusive touch. |

I really like skeleton hands, but the remaining bits would annoy me. I'd either relume or have them picked clean.
