Hi guys

Thanks to all for your input.

Trigger pulled :)

1st venture towards a vintage, or semi vintage if there is such a thing.

Beautiful! Looks as if it's all tritium and maybe unpolished case. What was the asking price, if you don't mind me asking?

Aaron, very few opportunities to purchase down here, so no bargains.

Allowing for exchange rate adjustments and gst, it would have cost USD5,100 if I bought it in the U.S.

Came with box, and no papers and the dealer just completed the following

witschi test
overhaul movement
dismantle case and band and refinish
re-assemble case
pressure test

That's a very good price for that watch, IMHO, especially with a service. I would have expected closer to $6K. Congrats!

Good for you David!
Glad you bought it, it's a stunning 16700 at a great price!
Now watch that tritium turn creamy over the next years

Enjoy it!

Hi Guys,

A quick question before I finalise the transaction ( 20% deposit paid last week ) - inspected the watch today and I noticed it had a closed 6 date wheel. Read somewhere that these were circa 92 - and prior to that they were open 6's. Is this an issue - or am I over thinking this ?

Thanks

Hi Scoobs, Nice watch! I am also based in Sydney and a few months ago also bought a 1990 16700 GMT for literally the same price!!! Small world.. I was in the exact same predicament when I saw that mine had a closed 6 date wheel after reading several articles that suggest they were open until 92/93 but not to worry, I can confirm that mine is also closed 6 & 9 and after looking on Chrono24 at many other examples from 1990 they are also closed 6 & 9 so I can confirm the articles had incorrect info (I am sure there are some from 1990 - 92 that did have open date wheels but certainly not all).

Enjoy it in good health! p.s. I have had no regrets what so ever and think the 16700 is bound to be a collectible as the last 'true' GMT master - Pull that trigger!!!!
