How much do RSC papers add to value?
I have a 1978 1680 that needs a little movement service, I've gotten quotes from ABC Watchwrerks and Polachecks (Rolex trained and certified) but I'm curious, since I see vintage watches listed with RSC paperwork going for a premium if it's worth the extra cost (if any) to have RSC do the work. Does the RSC paperwork add to the value of the watch for resale? If so how much?
Thanks. |

I don't think there is a big premium between a RSC service and a well known independent service like ABC.With the extra You will spend for a RSC service it's probably a wash.

It depends on how rare the watch is. On a run of the mill 1680, not much. On a 6263, quite a bit.
I would probably use an independent in your case, making sure they have a Rolex parts account.

To me it depends on the date of the service
If it's been 1 year i would call the premium about the price of the servicecost for that reference...

Many people overlook the fact that an RSC service also provides verification that the timepiece in question was not marked as stolen in Rolex's database at the time of service. If you're dropping tens of thousands of dollars on a nice vintage piece, that's reassuring and worthwhile.

It adds the cost of a service to the value.

If it's just a movement service, RSC is a good way to go. If it needs any laser welding I'd go with ABC. Can't go wrong either way.

Most important to me is that Rolex will not work on a watch that is not authentic, and thus RSC service papers are verification that the watch is genuine. Adds no value, but does authenticate for resale. When I bought my first vintage, a DRSD, I bought it with RSC papers from a known dealer so there would be no question of its authenticity.

It does add value in that it does authenticate the watch. Not to say that a watch without RSC is fake, but there is a risk that it is. RSC papers mitigate that risk, and that should be reflected in the resale value.

I disagree; since the "authentication" is as of the time the watch is returned when it was serviced, not at the point of sale.

Yeah the amount of money you'll make off the RSC papers it will probably just be even. You won't make more than the service cost imo. If you are getting it serviced for yourself I would go with ABC as they will be cheaper than an RSC.

The value may increase in relation to the particular vintage.
RSC papers for a common 5513 reference would be negligible, but may help you sell it quicker. A sales strategy to consider, maybe, because time is money... |
