Did Rolex introduce the first gold bracelet watch?
Gentleman, I need a bit of a history lesson. Did Rolex introduce the first gold bracelet watch in the market with the Day-Date(or was it Datejust) in 1956? Key point being, did Rolex introduce the first watch with solid gold bracelet? Was there any other watch brands competing in making gold bracelets at that time period before or after the Day-Date?
And the two-tone Datejust introduced in 1957 was the only two-tone bracelet available? Thanks. |

I have a solid gold watch bracelet from the 1930s, albeit only 9k, on a Rolex and I am sure they were around before that. At a guess, I would think probably Cartier was first to make them.

Breguet were probably first with a fob watch fitted with a decorative gold wrist band, which would date to the late 1700's. Cartier are probably recognised as the first manufacturer of a production gold bracelet watch.
Rolex produced gold Datejust models from the mid-1940's, but of course they manufactured gold watches fitted with gold bands from the time of the First World War onwards. |

I have a Tiffany Longines "tank" from the late '20s with matching white 14K ladder-type bracelet, and a Paul Dittisheim tuxedo watch from the '40s also with matching white 14K bracelet. Though neither are Day-Dates!
