Yessir. I felt like his short life really shortened his musical career. Selfishly perhaps I wish he had made more songs. MCA passing is also sad but he had a fairly comprehensive discography and career. Shawty lo also sad.

Jay Z level talent and more. Charismatic as well which goes a long way. A shame.

My lord can't believe Freddie made it this far without a mention. I always listen to queen radio when working around the house. Freddie was as good as anyone in the business

Jerry Garcia and of course, The Chairman of The Board, Francis Albert Sinatra.
Two total separate genres, but I love the musical genius of Jerry and who doesn't love the velvety voice of Sinatra.

I'd also have to add Frank Zappa to this list.

Indeed. I've enjoyed introducing their music to my kids and nephews. I actually pass by their memorial from time to time in Orange Park,FL.

Was more into AC/DC (early stuff) than Skynyrd at the time, but wore out more than one pair of hush puppies in school slow dancing to Freebird.

Somewhat surprised that no one mentioned Charlie 'Bird' Parker and John Coltrane. Or Duane Allman and Roy Buchanan.

The list is long. I find it harder to come up with favourite musicians who are still alive.

Who would be on the top of yours'?

Choosing one..... Merle Haggard... "The Hagg". (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016)
(Silver Wings, & many other performances).

Haggard was really good!! He had a houseboat moored next ours at the Silver Throne Marina on Lake Shasta, CA. He actually owned the marina and lived there. The place had a bar and stage for performances and while I never saw him sing he had a lot of great one night acts pass through there during the summer months. My wife and one her girl friends won a wet T shirt contest out on the dock one night Merle and his buds did the hosing down, but I digress:
