Hamilton Ventura

Years back, maybe 1993, I bought a gold Hamilton Ventura at a pawn shop for a great great price. But I didn’t like it. It seemed big on my wrist and uncomfortable.

My buddy, Bob, a very talented guy who played music with me had a black one and said he’d be glad to have it. So I gave it to him for the great price I paid.

Bob was an amazing musician, guitarist, bassist and singer. Tragedy struck in the craziest way. On a gig of mine, he walked in and collapsed with a heart attack and died. I don’t know, but maybe subconsciously it sparked me to buy the black one just a few months later.

I retired in 2009 and decided to treat myself to a new watch and bought one, the Ventura, in Black. I loved it. And I wondered, what was I thinking years ago with the gold one that kind of bugged me.

I had no idea then but this one is a special edition, it is a remake of the 1957 model worn by Elvis in Blue Hawaii. 1957 of ‘em were made.

My tastes changed toward automatics and Rolex, and I am not always sentimental about parting with things, be it a guitar or in this case, a watch. I sold it. So while it does sort of commemorate my retirement, I decided to part with it. And it drove me crazy. I was lucky I’d say to score it again on ebay last week. They hardly ever turn up. I dig it!

they are cool. I like this one though a little bit more than the standard model that is or was available.
