I find it humorous that most will say that they prefer the fluted bezel over a smooth. Yet Rolex releases a Day Day platinum fluted and everyone loses their mind. It’s definitely a weird hobby

because the smooth bezel became a staple to the platinum day date and along with the ice blue dial was the main thing that gave away the fact that it's platinum. it gave it its own identity through that, now it shares too many similarities with white gold imo

I'm not really certain; I've considered it. But not overwhelmed by the style.

Eh, I disagree with your premise. Obviously anecdotal on both ends but just as many people seem to be happy about this as otherwise. For me, personally, I’ll be in the market for a DD 40 in a few years. I was set on WG because of the lack of a fluted bezel on the platinum DD but am now drawn more to the platinum due to the availability of the ice blue dial.

I’m obviously only one person but I would have never shelled out for platinum sans fluted bezel.

Can’t imagine having a Rolex collection without one (IMHO)

Edit: every time I’ve seen a Rolex sign (with an actual watch on it), they’ve always had a fluted bezel. Anyone seen different (just interested)?

If I ever get a DJ 100% it will be with a fluted bezel….. I don’t think I could handle a smooth bezel when it gets a bit scratched up.

Fluted bezel is mesmerising! I would always choose it over flat one. That is why current DD PT is much better than previous one!

Smooth bezel for me. Fluted is just too much on my eyes, and distracts from the beauty of the dial.

I went the other way and started with a smooth bezel DJ. Learned my lesson and it's been fluted for me ever since.

DJ and DD MUST have fluted bezels for me

The fluted bezel is such a Rolex icon, and I love the way it looks. Paradoxically, it is not a priority for me to acquire one -- it is too "sparkly" for me to wear comfortably in my context. Smooth bezels for now, and will live vicariously through the rest of you!

Yes and I want it to be a Sky Dweller. That bezel looks stellar in person.

Love my DJ with a fluted bezel.

I was offered both but the fluted bezel just spoke to me much more. I feel like the smooth bezel is a bit plain for my tastes. My Milgauss of course has a smooth bezel, but with so much going on with the dial on that particular reference it makes up for any perceived plainness.

Fluted however does tend to be a little flashy so it has essentially been relegated to a nice casual weekend only watch for me. As a one and only I can definitely see why many would choose smooth, but as part of a collection for me it’s fluted all the way on the watches that have the option,

The lack of the iconic fluted bezel for the platinum version has always been a shortcoming for this reference cause Rolex couldn't machine one. Now they fixed this.

It definitely fits in my collection. The choice is ultimately yours if you want to keep one.

Shortcoming or not, it distinguished the platinum DD from the rest, and I liked the stealth or understated appearance. After all, isn’t that why someone chooses white precious metal? Just because they can now mfg a fluted platinum bezel, doesn’t mean they should. Also, platinum is a softer metal, so time will tell how it holds up.

Are you concerned with other folks knowing that your are wearing a platinum watch? I assure you 99%+ of the public views all white metals as stainless steel.

If the fluted bezel improves the look of the watch (to me it certainly does) I'd rather have a better looking watch than dressing it down to give it a unique look.
