GQ article on Tiffany stamped Patek

Here is something I found interesting:

https://www.gq.com/story/wes-lang-on...e-nautilus/amp

Not to poke any bears but I am on the side that the Tiffany stamp certainly adds some “exclusivity” to a Patek watch enthusiast. I for one am all for it!

I am gently carassing my Patek 3712a - not exclusive but it has over 15 differences from a 5712a. Prefer that to a T stamp to be honest ;)

You've been posting quite a bit about how much you love the 3712, but then why have you been trying to actively hawk it for the better part of the last two months?

I don't get the infatuation with rarity, aesthetics dominate for me. I think a T stamp takes away from the 5712.

Neither do I. Neither do I understand ones desire to have one just for that name printed on it, nothing else is different at all. So you are paying an enormous premium for the "exclusivity" of it? Seems extremely pretentious to me.

I was wondering the same. And judging by the photos it’s in “beater” condition.

However, someone just bought a 5227R with the Tiffany Stamp and posted pictures recently and it actually improves the aesthetics in my opinion. It fills in what I think is too much empty space on that watch.

100% agree. My take is some of the people into the T stamp are simply in it to one up their friends who have a Nautilus... A way of showing off you are a bigger baller and cooler.

Same could be said for people buying pateks or RM’s,

T & Co stamp is cool. But I have to admit it only compliments the dial’s aesthetic on certain models. It looks best where there’s plenty of room on the dial. Less so if it seems jammed in there. Overall it does give the watch a bit more of a story and, of course, provenance. Just hang on to those papers!

+1 If Tiffany was my closest Patek AD, I'd be happy to do business with them, but the idea that I'd go out of my way or pay a huge premium for a stamp seems absurd.

It is always amusing when people profess how much they love a particular watch (often a hot model), yet they have the same watch listed for sale at a premium.

it depends on the watch if the T stamp takes away from the esthetics or not. on the 5711 it does not bother me, maybe it even balances the dial a bit by covering a rather huge empty real estate. in any case the 5711 is icon enough, it does not need that at all.
i don't get the thing with the T stamp at all, for europeans T is just another jewelry chain, one that i personally do not find very innovative - i certainly prefer cartier, bulgari...
for me the T stamp only means that one has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars at T or got to know a T sales person somehow. not too enticing for me but if it brings a huge premium on the market then by all means......

This.

Except that I am not into big brand jewelry chains, Tiffany or other, but small designer-owned stores around the corner.

Honestly I think Tiffany owes hodinkee and John Mayer a damn fortune because ever since that original talking watches with JM telling people to look closer people started to care more.

I walk into Cartier a lot with the wife but have to tell u... we have yet to find anything overly exciting there. That said the store front in NYC is really cool. It was their old mansion and has lots of great woodwork and hidden doors.
