Astros vs Philly

Any baseball fans, specifically Philly or Houston? Diehard Braves fan here, so I will have to pull for the Phillies, although if both teams could lose, I would be for that. Verlander is rocking a 126710BLNR today, doesn’t look like 6 earned runs phased him.

Astros vs Philly

So back story is the girl is one of the Phillies fans that he flicked off before game 3. He came off the team bus and gave her an autographed ball and took a couple pictures with her the next day.

Also to note, it appears he and his wife (Kate Upton) are watch people.

Let's go Phillies. Born and raised in Philadelphia, still here and retired. I'm a 20-minute walk from Independence Hall.

Thank you for saying that. They absolutely cheated the Dodgers out of the 2017 championship. Think of game 5 at Minute Maid Park when Astros knew to lay off all those Kershaw sliders.

Go Phillies!

Hard to get interested in this Series.
One team finished third in their division (not league, division) and the other is best known for cheating.

Not very professional.

Can't expect much from this pitcher, his record in the World Series: 0-6, 6.07 ERA, 1.32 WHIP in eight starts.

Philadelphia sport is doing really well, Philadelphia Union (soccer) beat NYCFC 3-1 the other day to become Eastern Conference Champions and now play in the MLS final against LAFC on Saturday. The Eagles are 7-0 and The Phillies are up in the World Series.

Oh, and Leeds beat Liverpool away 2-1.

Actually, that's not a good way to look at the Phillies. They finished 3rd because they didn't play well in April and May, but since June, only the Dodgers had more wins. Plus, their reigning MVP (Harper) missed more than 50 games. Also, other star players like Wheeler, Eflin, Segura, Castellanos, Dominguez all missed a lot of games.

It's a fallacy to say the Phillies don't deserve to be there. The Phillies kept winning and winning when it counted.

Good points and accurate. We're always the underdogs here, but it's not how you start, but how you finish. We got to the dance by beating every team that had a much better record and home field advantage. We're at the big dance and wearing our best shoes.

Let's Go Phillies!

baseball is the most random of the major sports and has the highest variance due to the nature of the game (round bat, round ball, umps having different strike zones). i don't think it's fair to say that since a team finished 3rd in their division they don't deserve to be here. they played good or got hot when it counted. the braves did the same last year and the nats as well in 2019

mlb format is more to blame imo because you play 160 games and then a 3 game wildcard can completely wipe out everything you did in the regular season. look at the mets, played good all season and blew the one series that mattered vs the braves in the last weekend of the season which caused them to have to play the wild card against a padres team that happened to play good and that was it for them. it makes no sense to have a regular season be a marathon when the playoffs are a sprint

i can't get into this world series for a different reason since i'm a yankees fan but i don't hold anything against the phillies for getting their shit together when it mattered most. that's something i wish the yankees did instead of being regular season warriors every year then choking in playoffs

I've nothing against the Phillies, just not a fan of the expanded playoff format. It devalues the regular season which I always thought was one of baseball's strengths. But I also know it's not going back. They added the extra teams to keep more fan bases interested longer, and to add the extra week of TV playoffs. And from a money standpoint, I'm sure it makes sense. In fact, I'm expecting eight teams per league before long. Heck, who knows, maybe in a few years we'll have a World Series champ who finished the regular season under .500.

yeah true, the expanded format doesn't help. i feel like if they do keep it they need to make wild cards bo5 at least. or make the entire playoffs bo7 and extend it a week or 2. this season is going later because of the negotiations pre season anyway. current format is a huge disadvantage to teams who did well in the regular season

They Phillies did beat last years WS Champs in NLDS in order to get there.
