16610 with Open 6's

Hi,

I'm looking at a 16610, L serial (circa 1989) and one of the photos show an open 6 on the datewheel. Has anyone got info as of when the datewheels switched to closed 6 and 9 on this particular model? I'm posting here in the Vintage section since I believe this is where open 6's and 9's belong, but feel free to correct me...

Cheers

I think it was around 89/90.

I am interested in when the open 6 date wheels stopped too. I have seen some info on the web but I am not sure it is accurate. Some suggest up to 1993, but I have not seen anything to support that. So I am with Adam, and have not seen anything later than 1989 L serial myself.

Has anybody got an open 6 date wheel on their 16610, 16700, 16710 or Datejust with a serial number later than L serial ?

I have an open 6 date wheel on my 16610 from 1990. I just realised it, I’ve had it for 13 years and someone pointed it out when I posted a photo on a Facebook group.

The very first 16610 would have had open 6/9 datewheel. Don’t forget serial/years overlapped somewhat.

There is a few years carryover

Rolex almost never stops one thing, then begins another. Open 6 wheels were in the bins right beside closed and they probably didn't give it much thought as to what they were putting into the watch they were building, as long as it was made for it.
