Seeking opinions on this 16550

I've been offered this Explorer II, "R" serial number.
The dial has some bubbling around the plots, and around the center. Plots have a nice creamy patina, but hands not as much.Possibly not original hands? Is the dial ,or hands a deal killer? I can pick it up fairly cheap, less than $3500. No box/papers.

I like vintage, but pretty vintage. So I'd pass on this as the damaged dial would drive me nuts.
I've a 16550 creme dial. Nice rare watch. Would love a black dial with patina, but would pass this.
Regards

I think it depends on what you like, and what you're looking for.

If you're after an pristine investment or collector's piece, this one isn't it.
But for the price you mentioned, I think this is a great way to wear and enjoy a semi-vintage sport model with nice patina.

Based on your photos, the case and bezel look pretty good. The dial and hands certainly have their imperfections, but that's not uncommon for this reference, and I wouldn't call it trashed by any means.

Please post more photos if you can, and let us know how you get on.

Good luck,
-GW

I like 16550's. Finding a nice dial is not super expensive. $350-$500. should do it, Not a rail or cream but a real nice black or white dial. If bracelet is nice and tight that would put you in at a decent price. But I think you can find a nicer one for that same money.
